I know, like every other member of team 117, AJ has been criticized and has some weaknesses but I sure hope he stays. Imagine if the entire team played with the passion he displays each play. I love the outright violence he shows when he attacks the ball carrier. It would be great to see him stay and become a leader to the younger players.

this may be off, but I really like him at lb in running situations, or where he can't get locked up on an rb or slot with a pass, then dancing on the line, penetrating and rushing the passer for maybe 20 snaps.
I thought him rushing the qb and causing problems last night had a little to do with Miller getting free.
AJ should be back.

Losing the teams leading tackler is never a good thing.

I don't think he sticks around though unless he gets a 3rd or 4th rd grade from the NFL, which I don't think will happen.

He doesn't have much to prove at this point. Good tackler, quick to the ball against the run, below average in coverage. I don't see another year changing that and think he would make a very good rush LB or stand up DE in a 3-4 scheme.

This. Next year he'll have Weatherd on one side and Maggit on the other. People overlook the fact that he's had a sub-par d-line in front of him and no SEC quality LBs by his side. Bring him back....let Weatherd and Maggitt play in Nickle situations. Imo

AJ needs to go or moved to DE, we got some studs coming in at LB.
I don't know that we'll have anyone at MLB that won't be a bit of a dropoff, overall. He'll improve, especially if he gets a 2nd year in the same system. I don't think he'll go any higher than the 3rd, so it would likely be in his best interest to come back, play next to Maggit, be part of the turn-around and enter the league much higher in the draft than he would this year.

I don't think any player benefits leaving early from a losing team, unless their family has faced a lot of financial hardship, and their leaving early can help them out a great deal.

This is one reason why I think NCAA football players should receive a (10-25% of the TV revenue annual payout) stipend. When combined with their scholarship, it gives every college athlete more than enough incentive to stay 4yrs and get their education, while helping their team/program.

With that stipend, they'd have some money to help their family out a bit and maybe finance a decent new car. I also think that players should be allowed to receive money from agents. It's like anything in business/work. If you can score a bonus or financial incentive from a prospective partner, then why not? Nothing even remotely illegal about it.

There's nothing quick about AJ....he's a solid tackler, but he's horrible in pass coverage and securing the edge....hope he works on improving his speed....I think the crop of freshman LB's coming in are gonna have the speed that we've been missing....can't wait till we have that fast defense we seemed to always have in the day.

If he can work on, and get better, at his cover skills, then he'd be a great player. He is very good at the run, that is not his problem.

Hope AJ returns next season to provide leadership for the young studs we have coming in. This will greatly benefit AJ because he may be drafted higher plus he can help the youngsters adjust to the college game.

If he returns and Maggitt comes back healthy with all the linebackers we have coming in our line backing core will be sick

Yeah, it will probably be Weatherd...playing beside Maggitt and Johnson. That would be a mean LB corps.

Hope AJ returns. Hope the defense improves around him. When one LB gets 20 tackles, that tells me some other folks were not getting to the ball.

Sometimes, It felt like if AJ didn't make tackle no one did.

Yes, but, don't be surprised if he goes NFL. Dollars, my man, speak volumes.
