Heupel’s weekly press conference, after GA loss

Really here's the only question that matters going forward. Will this staff be able to recruit at a level high enough to match Georgia in talent? We've gotten extremely far just on Heupel and his staff's coaching/development. However to get to that next level, we are going to have to have bigger/better horses. Otherwise we're just going to be fighting Florida for 2nd in the east year in and year out.

I love the ownership in his voice. Did not make excuses.
Meanwhile, Butch recently spoke at some Arkansas football conference and said this year is actually year 1 and complained about all the injuries they have. What a difference it makes having an actual coach instead of some bullshitter

The thing is we don't have to completely match star for star if the coaching is there (and it is) find the ones best for the system and the rest will take care of itself.

“Josh Heupel on 'style points' when it comes to the College Football Playoff rankings: There's a whole month of football left and everybody in the country has a lot of ball left. There's nothing we can control other than how we play.

They are going to go full throttle, no mercy, on these next 3 teams to remind everyone of just how well they can play.

He had a smirk on his face to. I think he knows what his team is capable of.

No reason we can't match what Georgia is doing, recruiting-wise. Tennessee has proven it can recruit top 5 consistently if the kids believe we're a winner.

Absolutely but don't get too far into star gazing. You might end up overlooking someone who's a 5* in our system. I trust huepel to get the best players to give us the best chance to succeed.

Not really fair as nobody has been matching Georgia’s talent the last few years. A fair question would be can this staff consistently recruit in the top 5 in the SEC which should make us competitive with everyone in the league.

I would have to think players would be beating down our doors to come play for Heupel, his system and the culture we have at Neyland and in Knoxville. Who wouldn't want that?

That said, high on my wish list is a stud RB. Can you imagine what this team would look like with an Alvin Kamara , Chuck Webb or even Charlie Garner behind Hooker?

Does Alabama have any 5 stars?

My guess (and it's just a guess) - recruiting is going to be hamstrung for a bit while we're on our best behavior for the NCAA. Other teams can afford to go a little bit more into obvious grey areas that Tennessee can't.

Inner city Atlanta has been Kirby's golden egg. Tons of talent come out of there. We need Rodney Garner back down there to tap back in.

NIL changes all that. Recruiting has moved from under the table to out in the open. This is better for the players. They don’t have to hide the money they get.

So there are no grey areas left, essentially? I guess I'd thought impermissable contact (like an old school BP barbecue) was still a violation.

You’re right. There’s still plenty of petty little things the NCAA will be tracking.

I’m just not sure the impact a BBQ or stuff like that will have when it compares to the NIL money that’s available in today’s recruiting.

Sure there will still be $100 handshakes, but for the guy with the $100,000 NIL deal, I’m not sure he will be impressed with that. But who would turn down the $100 bucks?
