For a program that averaged 6 wins per year the 13 years before him.

Meanwhile, he’s doing this with less scholarships than his predecessors & opponents (10+ his first 2 years, 2 each year now) and with heavy NcAA penalty rumors during his first 3 yrs.

Everybody needs to stop with characterization of his program. He’s been limited ever since day 1.

We have fans that are mad about a 9 win average and would rather go back to 6 win average, so they can bitch even more just to be proven right.

I say all this as one of the biggest bitchers on VolNation.

We do have some of the dumbest fans of all fan bases. Obviously not as many as Alabubba, UF, UGA, and UK, but we have some that like to compete with them.

It’s hard to believe we have fans that have said this season is not a success. IMO it’s been very successful. Yes the Arkansas loss sucked. And the OSU loss was bad. But if we went back to the beginning of the year and was told, hey TN is gonna go 10-2, beat UF and Bama and make the playoffs, every fan would have been excited.

I think what Heupel has done here is the best coaching job at TN in modern history. Especially given the fact he walked into the absolute worst situation any TN coach has ever walked into by a LONG SHOT.

Until Heupel and the team gets serious about competing for a championship, then you fake goody goodies on here can chalk this season up as another failure. What went down in Ohio should not be okay by anyone's standards. Be more like the real football fanbases and demand excellence, or you shall never see it in your lifetime.

Like I said already, everyone from this point forward will look at us all as loservols until this lost at Ohio is avenged.

Fahr Heupel!?!?!

Damn man I just shake my head at some of our fans. It’s like people don’t realize how far he’s brought us in a short time.

Bro, only the lunatic fringe is saying to fire the man.

I think we can all agree that Heupel HAS to evolve as a coach from this point.

Yes, he has scholarship restrictions. That was much more pronounced his first two seasons-which were probably his most successful

The star power from those first two teams was inherited by Heupel. "His guys" have not yet reached that level of productivity

Heupel has done a good job in his tenure so far, but each year is a new challenge. Josh's challenge now is to take the next step in both talent as well as his coaching.

Play calling the last two seasons has been just plain bad for extended periods. Yeah yeah yeah-offensive line issues, inexperienced players blah blah blah. Josh is the chef and he has selected most of the groceries in the kitchen by this point

You’ll be typing that second paragraph every year for the next 10 years telling us we should pay him another million.

Chef had to put out a kitchen fire so to speak in year one. That NCAA investigation made us so damn radioactive, half the roster left. That’s a burned year recruiting. Hell it hung over our head for a while.

How do you know they aren't serious? Your name speaks volumes about your Fandom.

No one is happy about the last game, no one doesn't want us to win, but to say they are not serious about winning is just plain stupid

Where did this straw dog come from? Who the crap has suggested anything should be done with Heupel, or he should be fired or anything else? I haven't read anything like that. A person would have to be out of their mind to suggest such crazy shiz

Brother it's going around. It's a knee jerk reaction to a beat down. Can it get better? Yes. Should it get better? Yes. Will it get better? History shows us that CJH will improve. He's got us in the playoffs in year 4. He's a competitive person,he wants to win, along with the admin(White,Plowman,Boys)- this program will not remain stagnant.
Have we seen it worse? Yes. We know what happens and have lived this experience.
Coach needs to make some adjustments. His QB getting more experienced will help. Nico needs some dynamic playmakers on the outside for him to succeed. Go pay what it takes! We have the $$.
I think we will have a very competitive teams going forward who will compete for championships! Maybe it's orange colored glasses? I've seen what crap football looks like. This ain't it!

I am in no way saying we should fire Heupel, or even consider it. He has pulled the program out of irrelevance and is still a fairly young coach. However, I do wonder how long the 2005-2020 years are going to be the only barometer for measuring a coach’s job performance at Tennessee. It’s like my buddy who has a “1998 National Champion” license plate on his car and won’t consider taking it off. I think if we hadn’t won that one he’d have a “1951 National Champion” one. At some point you have to move forward.
