I am a mixed bag about Banks. I definitely think something needs to change. Defense looked brilliant last night but was horrid 2 weeks ago. We are very inconsistent. Initially we lacked talent but the talent is improving and the defense should be improving as well. Let's see how season plays out.

Edit: this ended up in wrong thread for some reason. I thought I was posting in Tim Banks thread.

I’m still trying to understand how no pass interference was thrown on that play? 3 steps before DB had his chin strap shoving him to the ground. What a catch!

Right. I know it ultimately would’ve been declined but as a ref you still do the right thing and throw the flag. The officiating this year has been sub par and Gomer Pyle and his crew last night were par for the course.

What do you think needs to change? You do realize that the offense, even last year, had some off games which is why the defense has to step up. That's why it's a TEAM sport. You do realize that Tennessee was #23 in the country in stop rate last year, which is the absolute main objective of a defense and despite lack of talent and depth we still managed to STOP teams from scoring over 70% of the time and the highest stop rate in 2022 was Iowa at 78.7% stop rate. Why not 100%? Because it's hard to stop teams from scoring. You do realize that we sit as a 25 Defense in the country right now. Offense is top 21 in the country.......what should we change?

This thread was addressing the fire Tim Banks thread. It is in the WRONG thread. My point is that I am not sure we should fire my defensive coordinator or not but definitely I can see the complaints when we rank near the bottom of the SEC and NCAA the last three years in defensive performance.

To me, the issue is inconsistency. Defense looked amazing last game but two weeks ago against Florida, they looked atrocious. We need a consistent defensive performance.

Consistency is 100% the issue. Defense has had some really good games under Banks, but some really bad ones, too.

I’m not ready to fire him, either. I’m hoping that he learns from the bad ones.

When we do as well as we did Saturday against a team that has NOT been decimated at the oline like SCjr, THEN lets take another look at this. A lot of their players were out.

Nothing proven yet. BUT I am sure a lot happier with the results (except for Bru's injury) than last year against the cocks.

Good to see them go limp in Neyland.

Not that I am worried about beating SCjr in the future but I dont think it was any "quality win" or anything like that. But I suspect it will build some confidence at least as we get to the meat of the schedule.

Cooper and Milton needed all the reps they can get to gel.

We are definitely on the same page. Granted, I can see confusion around my posts since it got posted in the wrong thread.

One thought is firing Willie Martinez (DB Coaches) but the lapse in defense this year has been more in the running game than secondary. If our defense plays like we did this past Saturday for the rest of the season, I would be very happy. However, it has let us down once already against a Florida offense that really wasn't very good.

Off topic from defense but it was interesting how much of a difference along the offensive line that Tennessee had by getting Cooper Mays back.

I hadn't realized until watching this that the play wasn't flagged . . . but watch the official's left hand. I really think he was starting to reach back for the flag until he realized Squirrel caught the ball.

When Banks puts an aggressive scheme on the field, it usually brings a good result. When he gets passive and dials up a pillowy soft zine like SC last year and Florida, the defense isn’t even competitive.
