Heupel rotation of running backs

In Pruitt's last year, the 3rd and 4th runners combined for less than 10% of the carries.

Our 4th highest carrier the past 2 years has taken on 12% of the carries himself and a bit more for the #3 guy.

I'd also simply say this is an ELITE scheme for ballcarriers. One of the best. We had gone almost a decade since we had 2 RBs averaging over 5 ypc...and Heupel has produced that in B2B seasons. He also did it every year at UCF.

This scheme is just so good and yet so common sense it's shocking it hasn't been the norm for a long time. The math is very simple, the fewer blockers, the lower odds of missed blocks and thus increased odds of a positive run. Get the guys OUT OF THE BOX!! So simple and so beautiful.

Cam Seldon might be the best RB we've had since Kamara. That kid is legit. I look for Wright to pop off this year too. Our offense is literally going to be unstoppable. Add in an improved secondary and....look out.

Hmmm: I saw a clip featuring, I think, nearly every carry he had. I didn't see Kamara. He had a lot of carries that went for very little yardage, which of course could also be a function of poor blocking/good defense. He looks good when running in the open field, but I didn't see him break any/many tackles.

Secondary is the biggest question mark for this team and if they can step up and get to another level I think Vols will be playoff bound. Offensive line is a question mark as well but they are in same boat. We got talent, experience and depth just need a couple guys to step up. I have a lot of faith in Elarbee. Great developer

Sorry, wasn't comparing him to Kamara as a player. Was comparing in terms of ceiling.

pump the brakes.

CS has lots of potential but needs SEC strength training and time to adjust.

I really like the enthusiasm but let's not put too much on the young man this early please.

Go Vols!

Guys we run a hurry up offense so whoever is in the game to start the drive never comes off of the field unless it's a stoppage of play. The top 3 guys will get the bulk of the carries with the freshman getting mop up duty carries. Don't expect this 4 or 5 man rotation.

So long as the OL can play up to snuff

Last years OL was the un-talked about strength of the team. Can we be that good again? That's the million dollar question. I have confidence this coaching staff can get them to where we're a hat on a hat by game 2 or 3. Do we have athletes that can match up with the top end of the schedule - Bama, Georgia? As in days of old we will learn a lot on that trip to Gainesville in the heat (literally and figuratively) of mid-September.

I'm more worried about them than Milton. Joe doesn't have to play Hooker level for this team to be successful. If the OL struggles it could be a tough year to pull out 9 games.
I’m giving Heupel and Elarbee the benefit of the doubt at this point after what I have seen in two seasons from the OL.

1 Jabari Small 157carries 734yds 4.7avg 13tds
2 Jaylen Wright 146carries 875yds 6.0avg 10tds

4 Dyan Sampson 58carries 397yds 6.8avg 6tds

I don't think most people appreciate the 1-2 punch Small and Wright delivered last season.
We don't have a receiever back there, but the offense doesn't use RBs that way.
It is like having 2 Roger Craigs.
We could easily have 2 1000yd rushers in Heupel's scheme.

I remember these same worries last year. Lot of predictions we wouldn’t be able to replace Cade Mays and thoughts that Darnell going back to RT was ripe for disaster. I think we’re deeper than last season.

I don't expect anyone to have a Darnell Wright type season. I honestly don't think anyone has his level of talent.

It also looked like everybody was getting some snaps in the O&W game so I'm not too terribly concerned atp. I will be much more concerned if they're still looking for a RT to take over in the middle of Fall camp.

I like our experienced guys and Seldon excites me, but at what point do we a top, game changing RB recruit? As someone said earlier, our offense should attract such talent.

This is probably the most "duh" comment, but I would have loved to have seen what Jamyhr Gibbs could've done in this offense (no sh*t he makes ANY offense better!).

I love our RBs, but I also would've like to have seen what Tiyon Evans could have done fully healthy and behind last year's OL.

Gibbs was a 3 star…so he’s not applicable. 😏

The “fully healthy” thing is the mythasaur with that one.

To me, our run game will be the difference maker this year. It silently was last year and could either bail Milton out if he struggles with accuracy, or will just make us elite if he balls out.

If Milton and all our O linemen can keep developing and reach their full potential by the time we start our 1st game then our O could become a Rocket on Roids that's almost unstoppable.

Clemson supposedly had a good D last year and it was really only Miltons 2nd start after the Vandy game and we saw what he did in the Orange Bowl.

We know he's working hard and getting better and more comfortable as the days go by.

If our D can only get better enough to play decently then we could end up with a Playoff Team.

These things are all possible.

I sure hope that's what we all see happening this season.

VFL...GBO!!!
