I have no idea if you have any information on what exactly happened, but if you do, would you care to share what you know? All I've picked up on is that if the university handed out these tough of sanctions, the NCAA is going to be a lot more rough on us. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

I'm going to give it a few days before I post what I am confident the facts are. Got a couple of people I'm going to talk to tomorrow to confirm some things.

UT will have to play Woolridge/Pearl/Goins this year...isn't that punishment enough?

Understandable. I'll ask this, though, do you think what is to come is enough to do Pearl in?

It is possible...depends on what else they find, hopefully when he came clean, he did so by telling them everything if not, we are screwed and Pearl could be on his way out.

Not if the investigation remains limited to the contact issues. As I've always said and stand by, Ramar Smith's admission to the University of Tennessee was the direct result of outright academic fraud. Daniel West's bid to enroll was another attempt at the same trick. If they bother to look into that and can connect it to anyone on the staff, they're all done.

Thing is, if you now this, how does the NCAA not know?
Not doubting, just saying.

Seems to me that this is going to get a lot worse.

Knowing something and being able to prove it are two different things. As long as the principal participants in the fraud, one of them being Smith himself, held to their stories it would be tough to prove academic fraud, especially where grades are involved. Think about that. Then, try and think of any reason Ramar Smith would have to protect the program that tossed him, then through back channels tried to sick the KPD and a couple of federal agencies in order to make him the boogeyman in the entire Tyler Smith, et al affair.

Remember this fact. Jim Calhoun, Kelvin Sampson, and Tim Floyd all either refused to recruit or stopped recruiting Ramar after getting a look at his transcript. Take that as you will.

You both seem to understand the culture Ramar comes from so well...

Ramar Smith is bad news. Everyone knows that. But if you know he did kill someone, why don't you talk to the KPD about it? Because you don't.

While Ramar has no reason to protect the university, he also, because of his character resume, lacks any credibility. His testimony would also be slanted if he were to talk to the NCAA because he would have an ax to grind in relation to being dismissed. My guess is that he wants as little to do as possible with an investigation of any kind. He has been laying low since the arrest and would be foolish to stick his nose in the public eye again. I hope he is smart enough to know that, but I am also not naive enough to think he is "smart" in regards to anything.
