Hey guys, I know none of y'all know me on a personal level, i've been around since 2007 under the same name. Anyways, I started a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for my mother. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease but doctors haven't been able to pinpoint the exact issue. About 4 years ago, her muscles had extreme weakness. It seemed like the issue happened completely overnight. It got to the point where she couldn't use her legs to push herself out of a chair. She could no longer use stairs because she couldn't support her weight. It has slowly spread to her arms and then to her throat. We were referred to a doctor at Vanderbilt and they were unable to pinpoint the exact cause and they basically said she would just have to live with it. A couple years later we were referred locally to UAB. The doctor gave her infusion therapy as a shot in the dark. The therapy seemed to work as my mom started to gain more strength. However, the treatments are quite expensive and her insurance will only cover a small portion of the payment. The doctors have recommended giving her more treatments. My mom has done everything for me and I would love to give back to her by raising some money. This is my first time running a campaign so I'm still figuring everything out. I haven't shared on it Facebook because my mom is embarrassed by her condition. My mom keeps herself so not many people know about it She believes people will look down on her. I understand every member has their own bills to pay and their own issues, but if anyone wants to contribute, even if it's $5, we would be extremely thankful. I felt like I could reach to my fellow Vol fans for help. I've reached out to the mods about posting this but no response. So if this is against board rules then feel free to delete my thread.
Thanks Guys and Gals

We have hman. I guess she doesn't want people to look at her different or feel sorry for her.

I think you came to the right place. The Volunteer fam came up big for a St. Jude's fundraiser on here. Let's just make sure we keep this thread at the forefront with comments.

Just donated - figured our screen names were so close I couldn't refuse. I know the pain of being a Vol in bammerville!

EDIT: Actually, just figured out you were one of my students. My name should show up on the donation page to you even though I went anonymous.

You were one of my favorite professors haha. Your dry sense of humor always cracked me up. Never would have known you were a Vol fan

I hate that I currently have nothing to donate. But I have to commend you on the fantastic avatar. Hopefully I'll have something monetary to contribute for now. I hope this treatment can help ease her pain.

Wondered when I first saw this thread. Thought I would wait a while to determine whether this is something I should support or not.

Donated based on my respect for you and trust in your discretion.

Donated. Your family will be in our prayers.

Wish there was more we could do to offer emotional support to your mom. One of the things that boosted my mom's spirits and helped her fight cancer was all the people showing her love, sending cards, etc. And it helped me too. Just reminded me I wasn't the only one trying to love her through it, ya know? It's hard watching your parents go through an illness when you can't fix it.

Donated. I've had experience with treatments where insurance doesn't provide much help and know it can be a big financial burden. Your mom will be in my thoughts.

That is so funny.

When i got the notification of the donation I thought how in the world did my healthcare marketing professor find the page. I log onto VN and I see that he was volinbham the whole time. Wish I knew that when I had his class

side note, I wasn't a fan of the exams being all essay questions but he's a great professor and great guy.

VN is absolutely the right place for this.
We wouldn't have gotten Red (my wife) in front of the right Drs without the support from VN.

We are fighting Lyme which sounds a lot like what you're dealing with.

Has she been checked for Lyme disease?

They've ruled out MS and Lyme disease. At one point they thought it might be ALS but I'm pretty they've ruled that out as well. Every doctor she's seen hasn't been able to give her an answer
