Due to my son's Cub Scout trip I had to miss this weekend's games. I did take a portable tv and watched bits and pieces of the Bama game, but I didn't see any of the UT game. How did you guys look?

Offense still not crisp. Defense is as stout as ever. ANd still no clue on SPecial teams.

I thought the defense look very good. However, we are going to have to a much better job of containing the Quarterback when we play Georgia. Ole Miss's QB got outside contain too often and GA has a much better scrambler in Shockley.

The offense is going to have to find a way to get the ball down field in the passing game. We can't survive GA and AL with 3-5yd completions.

The kicking (field goal) game is still unsatisfactory.

However, and most importantly, we won.

Defense pretty solid; had an INT for a TD early. Gave up some plays in the passing game late when we lost contain on Spurlock, but overall very solid D. Actually had them in negative rushing yards until late in the 4th quarter.

Offense inconsistent and sluggish as always. Riggs had another solid day, about 120 or so yards. Good pass blocking, occasionally good run blocking. Clausen was hurting a little bit, and completed only 18/35 passes for about 205 yards. He didn't make many mistakes, though. We'd drive the length of the field practically, then get in the red zone and stop, either missing a field goal or turning it over on downs.

All in all, a very average effort I thought. Maybe we were tired after the LSU game, and we also got up 14 - 0 within the first 5 minutes of the game, so may have laid back a little too much.

Defense is still great, special teams are improving (FG's still a thrill a minute), and offense still inconsistent (can't finish off drives or get big plays for TD's.) We have a lot of work to do before UGA this Saturday, and also before we have to travel to T-Town.

Congrats on a big win over the Gators. That was damn impressive.

not takin anything away from shockey but i believe spurlock was much fast and way more mobile. He can straight fly. Shockey is a better passer however!

Are you guys serious? When you say we lost contain, as if it was a problem for the game... before that 55 yard run by their tailback late in the 4th we held them to NEGATIVE FIVE yards rushing!!! Yeah, he got outside a few times, but it was never a problem! When he got out there, they played it well and kept him in the backfield.

Offense and the third team defense was not all that good.

i thought our special teams picked up to about par. kickoffs were going deep into the endzone, no turnovers and positive yards on punt returns.

could be worse.

Clausen didnt play particularly well, but he is hurting. Dline was awesome, new cb Wade played really well. Riggs ran the ball hard. Play calling was limited due to not being able to throw a deep ball and meachem being hurt.

In my humble opinion the problem is on the sidelines and not the field. We stunk! :realmad:

our o line has ben pretty nicked up this year, i think there getting healther, they did a good job saturday, and have most of the season for what they have ben threw, i think think we need to throw the ball 35 times, 25 at most, i think we need to pound the ball more, and show our depth in the back field, when we start doing that, rick is going to get some longer pass plays off the play action, when that D starts to creap up because we have driven the ball down the field 70 yeards with out one pass, on the next drive we can just throw it over there heads. for some reason i cant get phil simms out of my head when i think of rick clausen, exelent game manager, dosent make mistakes, smart, good leader, i think thoose are more important to winning football games than arm strength

Yes, I was serious and I still am. As I recall the game, most of the passing plays completed were done so with their QB outside the Tackles. We did not do a good job of keeping him in the pocket.

We did contain the running backs except for that one play. The QB was the problem.

Hopefully, we will keep Shockley in the pocket and put a lot of grass stains on his white britches. He will look especially good in red/white and green.

GO VOLS, BEAT UGA AND KEEP THE BAND PLAYING ROCKY TOP ALL DAY LONG :td:

We didn't do a good job of that with Hack or Spurlock. It's a must with Shockley.
