Just to think, they aren't a terrorist nation....

US: Top al-Qaida in Iraq Figure Captured

So, this is the organization al-Quaida in Iraq. I don't think that anyone would disagree that terrorists have come to Iraq. The point in the other thread was that there were not radical Islamic terrorists looking to hit the US in Iraq pre-invasion. About the only reports I have read of terrorists actually operating out of Iraq were some Palestenian training camps that switched mission some time ago to support Iraq national military operations.

So this makes what the third TOP al Qaeda figure in Iraq captured? Sounds like we're having trouble finishing them off. They manage to replenish their numbers and leadership quite well.

Well...I think that you're right...and I wonder what "top" really means.

Like any organization if you cut out the top that just means promotion opportunity for the lower level guys. Al Qaeda organization won't be ending any day soon but that doesn't mean you stop chasing them.

getting rid of terrorists isn't something that can happen in a short time. they are like gnats, everytime u think u've got the last one, here comes another, but eventually u get rid of them

I've never known anyone to completely get rid of gnats or terrorists. All you can do is minimize them and improve the environment to the point that they don't breed new ones.

Agreed. Also the term leader can be misleading - even if their were only one left; there would still be a leader.

Hopefully, the replacements are not as competent as the ones they are replacing...

The conundrum with terrorism is that acts of terror have never really helped to achieve any sort of goal, but the terrorists themselves continue.

The only resolution I can think of with regard to terrorists is the IRA stepping aside in Northern Ireland.

Tell that to Spain with Basque terrorists, Israel with Hizbollah and Hamas, Russia with Chechens, etc. etc.

Now a story is coming out that al Qaeda in Iraq is more fictional writing than actual personnel. If this is true then the threat we've been told about isn't really there and we're fighting a completely different element in Iraq.

Sounds like bull. But stranger things have happened. Will wait and see.
