Nobody else excited about the high school season getting underway shortly? It's the first actual football being played since the superbowl aside from the preseason NFL games, which dont count anyway. This thread is open for discussion about favorite schools you graduated from or are still attending. Hopefully my former high school will do better than 0-10 this year. DeKalb County has been in a rut since the early 90's. :bad:

Livingston Academy opens their season next week against Trousdale County. 2005 3A and 1A champions.

Could be a bad year for LA... lost THE Wilson Cates, and they only won 5 games last year WITH him before sneaking into the playoffs and running the table. To make matters worse, the starting QB broke his collarbone and is out for 5 or 6 weeks.

Independencd H.S. here in Charlotte is riding a 92 game winning streak and 6 straight state championships....it'll be interesting to see if they keep that up...this is where the likes of CJ and Chris Leake are from, Mohommed Masoquai and Joe Cox also played there....

So they turn out D1 prospects as well as terrorists? :ermm:

Bearden High - Knoxville

It will be interesting to see what happens with a new coach, who wasn't inbred with the previous 2 head coaches.

The Gallatin Green Wave kicks off their season next week @ Lebanon. They have been down since Calvin Short left. Most people around here expect the Wave to make a run deep into the playoffs. I don't know if they will or not. The defense is dominant, but the offense has been anemic for years. I expect that they will win region 5-5A, especially since Hendersonville is down, but how far they go in the playoffs will depend on how well JT Ferrell does at QB. He is a good running quarterback, but he's not much of a threat to pass. They return a 1-2 punch at TB in Jay R Harper and Dajuan Manning which will give the Wave a solid running game.

Does anybody happen to have the USAToday National Top 25? The Regional 25's would also be nice to see.

My high school alma matter, Glencoe, had one of the poorest showings in the 25-year school history last year at 3-6. We still have a record of making playoffs about 70% of the time throughout the school history, with two state titles.

Oregon just realigned divisions for high school sports, though. It used to be 1A - 4A based on student population. It's now 1A - 6A. We went from the top (4A) to the second highest now (6A). Some schools populations were starting to exceed 2,000 and smaller schools like Glencoe (averages about 12/1,300 kids per year) were getting left in the dust.

So now we're in a new, much easier division. Not to mention the 4 best teams in the state of Oregon (Jesuit, Beaverton, Westview, Southridge) are all within about 4 miles of eachother. But, since we're not in that league we went from no chance to 5A state title contender. So that's cool. I'm pretty certain we'll make playoffs this year (huge disapointment if we don't), and expect us to go fairly deep.

That is a nice list. Riverdale is my alma mater. But I have to pull for Lincoln County now.
When Gallatin dropped off the map, Riverdale took our place as top dog on the midstate. That was a good rivalry for awhile. Hopefully both teams can live up to the preseason hype. I'll try to post the Tennessean's poll every week when they release it.

They got beat by McCallie(UT QB commit BJ Coleman's school) on a Coleman hail mary. Coleman went like 17-24 with 250+ yards and 3-5 TDs. Riverdale was winning late but fumbled at midfield that led to a McC TD and then threw an INT that led to the hail mary.

Best game of the night was Brentwood Academy and Ravenwood. BA won 36-35 in OT. BA's TB, Chris Jordan should be the #1 recruited player in the state now. 6-3 205, only a Junior, transferred from Georgia's 6A state championship team where he started as a Soph last year.

DeKalb County loses again to Warren County 21-0. I dont know what they were thinking when this head coach was hired. Trapp sucks.:realmad:

That's encouraging news. Maybe we got us a QB .
