:banghead: David Cutcliff wants to be a head coach. We'll I say UT should hire him as head coach, Fulmer should be O-Line coach if he wants to keep a job. Sanders can clean the toilets at Neyland. :banghead:

Charlie Weis thought enough of him to hire him as QB coach.

I would have to agree. He was my coach at Banks High school, back in the stone age, and is an exceptional coach. He would be the perfect fit, has Tenn ties and could double as head coach/OC.

I don't doubt it would be good for this football team, but I think Cut has too much integrity and too close a friendship with CPF for that scenario to pan out. I also don't think the University can afford to buy out CPF's contract... not that I think he's the problem anyway, but there is so much out there to shoot down the notion of firing CPF and getting Cut to take the job.

Cut is in no way qualified to be a head coach at a program like Tennessee.

I really don't understand this love affair with the guy. He wasn't near this popular when he was a coach here.

The love affair is that our offensive production has gone steadily downhill since he left. That is the truth. We are also less disciplined now than we were under his guidance. I believe we were never ranked less than 30th in the country for total offense under him.... we are ranked worse than 100 right now.

Maybe most importantly.... there are very few people that Fulmer would entrust the offense to without heavily interfering and Cutcliffe is one of them. We have seen how it's worked for Chavis who has total control the D.

Cutcliffe is a very good QB coach and he knows this system which Fulmer will not get rid of. He is also extremely demanding of his receivers.

Cutcliffe is a UT product who did a decent job at Ole Miss but he is not a good enough recruiter to be the headman at UT nor does he have the personality to raise the money that Fulmer does.

Cutcliffe is likely the most realistic shot at getting some changes on offense without dumping Fulmer.

I think all of these things make him the best alternative at the moment.

Classic example of the old saying.

"You don't know what you've got until it's gone"

No lie . . . He was well respected, but I don't remember the words "Cutcliffe" and "guru" ever being in the same sentence. Doesn't anybody remember the heat he used to get when we'd play close games against the likes of Vandy, Kentucky etc...? Even during 1998, he was being criticized for being too conservative.
