On 247 we have 279 points. This gives us the 10th ranked class. The last three cycles that total points would have been 8th, 6th and 7th. Even though we are 10th this year we are only 27 points from first place class.

In previous years from the 8th, 6th and 7th position we would have been this far away from 1st place In points with 279 points.

First place in 2022 had 333 total (279 would have been 54 pts behind)
2023 - 328 (49 pts)
2024 - 318 (39 pts)

So this is data proof that talent is spreading out more among the top 10 so while we are 10th place now we really are as close to the #1 class in points as the 3rd-4th class from just a couple years cycles ago.

Combine this with our portal work and we definitely signed a class we can win a National Title with.

Thanks for this. Agree 100%.

Also ...we can win a National Title right now in 2024 if our offense hits their stride. We have a Championship defense right now.

Honestly, when you are top 10 (high school recruiting), the difference is miniscule. It comes down to hit rate, coaching, and development. Throw in the portal it closes the gap even more if you get the transfer that fit your system.

Long story, short, BIG 🍊 is here!

This is a solid signing class that addressed depth needs and restocked the defensive line room.

Likely see even more parity in this conference due to the talent gaps closing more and more. Doing well in the portal may be what puts a school that’s close over.

these days a top 10 class is needed to stay "Close" to the top, but filling holes using the portal may be just as important or more important.

DaBo disagrees with your portal strategy…..seems to be working for him

Attrition and portal additions are what separates programs at this point. And landing at key positions like Oline.

My one gripe is the Oline has to get better going forwards if we want to take the next step and we were close this year; if we held on to Utu with who we have currently it would’ve been an elite Oline class. Right now we’re just very good at Oline recruiting and that’s unfortunately not good enough to be a consistent elite team.

Even though I’m putting out criticism I don’t want anyone to think I don’t appreciate the staff and Heupel. What they’ve done in the few years they’ve been here is absolutely amazing. I don’t know that anyone could’ve done better given the circumstances.

As I was just about to start my annual whining about us getting beaten again in the recruiting trail, a good friend who knows more than me pointed out something relevant…

If you look at the last few years of recruiting, we usually end up somewhere in the middle of the SEC pack…

But this year, finished tied for 2nd in SEC on the field.

Something to think about and inform our conversation on here.

Not that anyone has time to do it but I would be interested in seeing the numbers of each of the teams classes 3 years later, with the transfer portal players factored in. Tennessee has performed much better than most in the portal. Both keeping theirs & adding a few here and there. I bet we would fair very well in those comparisons.

I don't care about numbers i care about talent and we are bringing in Elite Talent this class. For instance. Look at our front 7 from top to bottom. Outstanding but yet majority of signes like Harmon 91 rating but I see top 100 player easy. Dye yes he is top 100 but my eyes see 5 Star. Our QB incredible Top 100 talent 5 star but because of 1 camp he was lowered to 4 star really when i see him throw the ball i see a gift of a arm. Great Job staff. In CHRIST Alone

I am happy about this class, however once again the big miss is a lack of elite talent at DB, particularly Safety. Would be great to find another McCoy in the Portal.

There would be 1 safety that would fill that role.

His name is Koi Perich. Will be a freshman all-american. 5 INTs and 1 FF

Hopefully he enters the portal.
