I remember her as a player too. She was good, she was smart, and she was what made the team click. She got a bazillion awards and was also a member of the 1980 Olympic team that didn't play because of the boycott of the games in Moscow. So give or take, she was one of the best 12 players in the US.
When I was watching the game tonight, I was thinking about how some former PG's seem to have a difficult time translating that game management to coaching, while others are more successful. Holly, Jody Adams, and Kellie Jolly all played about a decade apart, all were outstanding PG's under an outstanding coach, and 2 of the 3 have really struggled as head coaches.
