I just got back to K-town from Lexington and let me tell you...that was AMAZING. I thought when they tied it at 60 we were toast. I wish ya'll could have heard that place. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

One thing I will say...at the Florida game, when Humphrey's name was called in the starting lineup and everytime he got the ball, he was booed...loudly...when Lofton's name was called in the lineup tonight, half of Rupp stood up, clapped and cheered....I know he's a hometown boy, but they gave him some respect and I was awestruck.

Anyway, great win and GO VOLS....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you had a good time. I've been reading Kentucky message boards and I'm impressed with what I've read. They gave Lofton all the credit he deserved and then some.

They were all very complimentary of our coach and the will and determination of our team too. Saying things like it reminds them of old Kentucky basketball. Hats off to the Kentucky fans. :hi:

Yeah, Lofton got a great ovation. That showed a lot of class on the part of the Cat fans. His ovation was actually a lot better this year than last year. After all, it is not like he shunned UK.

I've heard that Humphries wanted to come to UT but Peterson didn't want him. Is that true? If it is true then the way Kentucky fans treated Lofton is the way we should treat Humphries. IF it's true then its the exact same situation.

IIRC, he took Bradshaw instead. Buzz also brought Lofton, CJ, Major, Asumnu and Patterson to UT. Pretty hard to imagine us where we are without those guys.

I agree Vol fans should treat Humphries the same way KY fans did Lofton. Humphries did not turn down a schollie at UT.

On a related "fan behavior" note, we need our fans at the games to get LOUD! and not just in response to something the players do, but to help energize the Vols before they energize the crowd. I wasn't at the FL game, but was at Vandy and Ole Miss -- I couldn't wait to hear the crowd after all I had heard about the atmosphere for FL, but I was a little disappointed. Heck, the only ones who sing Rocky Top are the band members in that one chorus! I guess I feel the same way about the crowd as Pearl does about the Vols... we've accomplished a lot (better attendance, etc.), but not time to be satisfied! We can be way more intimidating! :clapping:

I've wanted to ask this question of someone who was there. I was listening to the Vol Network, and they said the Blue fans began making an exodus at about the 3 minute mark when they were only down by 3.

What the heck was that about?

Were they that confident of losing at that point?

With 3 minutes remaining and a 3 point deficit, a basketball game can seem like an eternity.

What gives with the Kentucky fans?

I have asked that question several times.

I went to the game with my best friend from college who grew up about 45 minutes south of Lex and is as die-hard big blue as I am big orange. I have asked him this question many times. We sat in the lower arena about 20 rows up from the floor in the middle of a lot of blue. If UK was behind at all...3 points, 5 points, 7 points (not unsurmountable differences) every KY fan sitting near me was bitching and moaning about something...

"If Sparks ain't in the game, they can't do nothin'..."

"Get that damn Sparks out of there if he ain't gonna take a shot..."

"Tubby ought to be shot...Damn Lofton's good..."

It was one of the most interesting experiences of my life...I thought the fans would be all over us and that I would have a hard time hearing or seeing much of anything...Turns out that unless they are in the lead or are threatning, its not very intimidating.

With a few minutes left, my buddy said..."if we lose this game, they'll (UK) get booed off the floor."

I'm thinking, are you serious? I know it's a home game and that Rupp is Rupp, but is it that bad for an unranked team to lose to #11/14 in the country?

When I brought that up, it really pissed him off...I know we have our share of fair weather football fans (Fire everybody unless we win the SEC every year) but I believe that entire arena was fair weather to the cats...

I think they've given up on this UK team. My cousin called with 20 secs left to congratulate me... she sounded indifferent at this point about losing.

That's a shame...All the years that we have sucked...I kept going and I kept cheering. Tough years happen. I would question some of Tubby's decisions with regard to recruiting (3) 7 footers who can't contribute...but UK will be back.

I could see Tubby's wife and the entire area behind the UK bench...no signs of Ashley...sorry

Then except for that little business of The Big Orange kickin' butt, I'd have to say you wasted a trip... :whistling:
