This is what Home Depot's founder Bernie Marcus said on a conference call yesterday:

If a retailer has not gotten involved with this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to Norm Coleman and these other guys," Mr. Marcus said, apparently referring to Republican senators facing tough re-election fights, then those retailers "should be shot; should be thrown out of their damn jobs.

Personally, I haven't a clue about 'card check' legislation, but it seems like there is some real panic in the ranks now that the Dems are closing in on 60 seats. What do you guys think? Is this that big of a deal?

"card check" effectively eliminates the secret ballot for union organization. Meaning that employees of non-union shops will be forced to either sign or not sign a union card under the full view of the union "organizers".

Mr. Marcus' hyperbole notwithstanding, I agree with the sentiment that card check under the Employee Free Choice Act would be a major detriment to American companies who aren't currently being screwed by labor unions.

CNN just confirmed that Stevens has lost the election and Mark Begich (D) has won the Alaskan senate rate (officially)

Based on everything I'm reading, it looks like Franken has better than even odds to win Minnesota. Recount started today and he's down 215, but these recounts usually yield more missed votes for Dems. My Prediction: Franken pulls out a win by less than 20 votes. Secondary prediction: we'll see another Brooks Brothers Riot before the results are final. Should be fun!

Because of our screwed up runoff law, it looks like Ground Zero for the Senate is going to be here in Georgia on December 2nd. Just about every heavyweight from both parties either has been or is scheduled to be here.

I heard Clinton and Gore will be there, but I doubt Obama will make an appearance. Surely, Saxby is the favorite, no?

i think zaxby is the favorite. if you look at the county voting block. there were alot of
3rd party votes that should go zaxby's way. SAVE US SENATOR ZAXBY.... YOU'RE AMERICA'S ONLY HOPE.... SAVE US SENATOR ZAXBY..... YOU'RE AMERICA'S ONLY HOPE.

imagine voting no and then the measure passes. i wonder what your odds of promoted are when every supervisor knows you voted against it. this really bad for America.

Gore has already been here and Clinton is Atlanta right now.

Saxby Chambliss should win. He missed getting to 50% by only 8,000 votes. Plus his opponent is a complete goober. But it's probably going to be a little closer than he wants.

Saxby should have voted against the bailout bill. If he did, he probably does not have to worry about winning a runoff election.

Since when is management that is responsible for promotions part of the labor union?
