ESPN wanted to move the Cal/TN game to Sunday night prime time.....MH like the idea, but Cal said no, they didn't like the idea of a short week....boo hoo. oh well...hopefully that will be an afternoon game, and not a noon game on JP.

That UAB game was brutally hot where I was sitting

Those noon games were tough.

Cal needed that extra day to prepare for Minnesota...

I'm sure this will be another year full of 12:00 games on JP with one or no night games! Grrrrrrr

We took a crew up to Notre Dame last year for that game. I plan on taking the same crew to Cal in 2007 for the opener as well. Even if it is a noon game there, it will at least be 3pm our time. Not that any time is too early for drinking on game day. Having a Guiness with my McDonalds breakfast on the strip at 8am brings back some memories.

My guess is that it will be picked up nationally by CBS or ESPN, but playing at noon (9:00 am hippie time) in 90% humidity and 90 degree temps might not be such a bad idea. I'll bet the Berkley hackey-sack games haven't been held in those conditions very often, while our proud Southern gents are a bit more used to the Tennessee Labor Day climate.

Yeah...I don't think non conference games are shown on JP, so maybe ESPN will pick it up for another time regionally or CBS will. If it doesn't get picked up, which is unlikely, then I'm guessing PPV?

i'd like to think the TN/Cal is a bit more high profile, and that CBS would p/u the game, if nothing else, ESPN2???

Hey, as long as it's on national broadcast I'll watch it.

Cal needs a dose of a Noon Game
I don't think the heat will affect them too much... A lot of the middle-state valley kids from CA, have had to deal with plenty of hot summer weather before. It's not exactly like playing in that heat will be a new deal.

It isn't the heat Milo... it is the heat + HUMIDITY. The South can be deadly for Westerners.

It counts as an SEC game because it is a home game for an SEC team. JP has there spot in the pecking order, so if it is still available, I'm sure they'll take it.

Given that you have two high profile teams, two broad national audiences, and the southern fanbase plus a team from a populous area, you can almost bet the farm that it will be a national game.

The conference openers go:
Bama v. Hawaii
Arkansas v. Southern Cal
Auburn v. Washington St.
Florida v. So. Miss
Georgia v. Western Ky
Kentucky @ Louisville
LSU v. La-Lafayette
Ole Miss v. Memphis
Miss St. v. So. Carolina
Vandy @ Michigan

Looking at it with my biased eyes, I would think the UT/Cal game would be the #1 game that week, with Auburn/Wazzu being second and the other games either being mediocre or regional interest only. That means bank on CBS or ESPN/ESPN2.
