On Saturday morning I stopped a local water station to fill up a couple if three gallon jugs.
While driving into the parking lot, I noticed a few pieces of luggage in front of a gym.
As I was filling up the jugs, I saw that someone had woken up and was trying to stretch out. It was a pretty chilly morning and I realized that had likely spent the night there.
I looked to see if I had any cash and drive closer. I got out of the car and saw that it was a woman. I did not want to startle her so I called out a good morning to her.
She turned around and asked her if she could use some cash. She said yes right away so I walked over to her and handed her a few dollars.
I was expecting to see someone who had been on the street for awhile but was surprised to see a very well dressed woman who looked as if you would run into her at a high level company.
I am a distributor for a lighting company so I asked if she needed a flashlight. She said absolutely yes as she was in darkness when the sun went down. She sounded so grateful
From the way she spoke I guessed that she was college educated. Her three pieces of luggage looked pretty high end and I wondered how she ended up where she was.
As I drove home I called my friend to tell her about the encounter. She told me that she had just read an article about how many people out there are just a few paychecks away from losing their home.
She has been on my mind
I am going to drive over there tomorrow night to bring her a hot meal.

I screened an applicant for one of my rentals last year who was homeless. Domestic abuse and literally had no family besides her daughter. Had a decent job but lost her home when hubby went to jail.
It was more expensive to be homeless but once in that cycle, almost impossible to save money at her income. Really opened my eyes.
Good on you for stepping in. Please update us.

Drove over there early this morning.it was drizzling and chilly this morning and I wondered if she would still be there.

There she was putting on her makeup.
I asked her if I could get her something to eat and she said that she would like some Greek Yogurt. I asked her if she wanted an egg sandwich but she said no thank you but a banana would be perfect.
Drove over to Publix and got her a few yogurts and a 1/2 dozen bananas. The cashier at Publix said weren’t you here earlier this morning? I told her yes but this was for a woman living in front of a store. She asked if the woman had luggage with her anc I said yes.
She told me that she comes into the Publix sometimes to buy Greek Yogurt & bananas.

When I came back with her food, I saw that she was was wearing Christmas headwear.
She was very appreciative and wished me a Merry Christmas.

I get a 'mental health issues' about her from your posts. I may be way off but I can't help feeling something isn't quite right.

Glad you're helping.

Have you checked to see if there is a local women's shelter that might be able to take her in? There's a high likelihood that she suffers from a mental disorder and possibly history of abuse or addiction. Getting her somewhere with resources to address her underlying issues is likely her only hope. The system is so broken.... many people with schizophrenia just end up on the street and eventually die there.

Your kindness might just be what she needs to trust that you are trying to help her.

That's kinda the vibe I'm getting also, awesome job by you for taking the time to help a complete stranger.
I appreciate the compliment. But I was unable to provide housing for the homeless lady and her child last year. I approved her but she found a subsidized place for a tenth of the out of pocket. So it was a MUCH better deal for her. I hope she is back on her feet now.
