@GAVol or anyone else with knowledge of homeowners insurance. I have a claim that I did not make that is showing up on my loss history report when quoting new policies. The company that I was with at the time of the claim shows no record of paying a claim for me on the date in question. How in the hell do I get that claim off my record? This claim on my report is causing my rate to sky rocket because it shows 3 claims in 3 years.

I’ve got my agent looking into it, but they’re not coming up with anything yet. The problem is, even if I switch agents, they will pull the report and see the same thing.

Any suggestions? This is beyond infuriating.

How to Dispute Information

Also, call your insurance company at the time of the disputed claim and ask them for a Letter of Experience stating that you were claim free. Another carrier might accept that as proof.

If neither of those work, call your state insurance commissioners office. Somebody there might be able to resolve the CLUE report issue.

Thank you very much.

Unless you fix this with lexisnexis the issue will not get fixed. The state will probably send you to them to get this resolved also.

Contact them directly and file a dispute.

It will be fixed within 72 hours.

They are the ones who provide clue data for almost everyone.

If you need help with the dispute paperwork let me know and I will walk you through it.

This is actually not a big deal and easily fixed so no worries.

You say that the company shows no record of paying the claim, but do they have record of the claim or of you notifying them about something with your home?

Just wondering because we once had a leak in our first house. Not knowing any better, we called the insurance company and they opened a claim and it wound up being small hole in the roof or something and it was considered wear and tear, so the claim was closed with no payment. If it had been a burst pipe or something they would have handled and they would have paid something on it.

The "claim" eventually fell off the report, but I learned my lesson about not calling the insurance company about anything that wasn't a slam dunk claim.

They had no record of anything on the date of the bogus claim.

I learned my lesson the hard way on homeowners claims as well. I did have 3 in 3 years, but 1 of them dropped off, but the bogus one is now causing me the high rates.

It would have showed up as a zero dollar closed claim.

There is a threshold where a claim does not impact you.

Zero dollar claims don’t hurt you.

If their system somehow did the agent should haven contacted UW.

I would advise checking out Grange, Travelers, State Auto, and Main Street.

Those four are all soft markets right now.

This is the first I have heard that zero dollar claims don't hurt you. Most things I have read seem to indicate the opposite, being insurance though, I am sure it varies from state to state.

For example, Montana just passed legislation last year banning the use of zero claims in cancelling/renewing policies and the insurance companies testified against the bill so they definitely did not support the change.

Every state is different.
And then every company is different within the state and modify ISO to fit their goals.
If your company is hitting you due to a zero dollar claim leave them. They suck.

They might be picking the claim up off the address and a previous owner of the property

Unfortunately, this has changed over the last several years. I focus on commercial insurance, but will write personal lines if a customer asks me to.
It blew my mind when I learned that many insurers contemplate a claim in which no payment was made in their quoting software/rating basis.
This puts the agent in a compromising position when there's a potential claim being reported by a customer. You want to tell them the best way to approach it, but many don't understand it and think the agent is simply trying to avoid paying it.

You're right and I totally agree. The frustrating thing though is the number of companies that have this underwriting philosophy now.
