"Honor killings" are cultural, not religious

This is a very good discussion of the distinction and how the Islamic community is trying to educate people about this issue. Sadly, there are a whole bunch of people who want to perpetuate the false notion that this is a religious-based practice.

Hard to ignore two critical facts: 1) other religions in the Arab and African regions of the world do it and 2) the country with the largest population of Muslims has none.

There are several questionable activities that devout muslims do that is not advocated by Islam. While many of these nuances are indeed cultural some of these practices reside in the different hadithas that are in existence. Everything is subject to interpetation. There are hundreds of these hadithas in existence that are basically chronicles of how mohammed lived based upon the recollections of those who knew him.

While what of part of what ACLG and communist news network say is true, if not rooted in islam these honor killings are surely watered by it.

For instance, under islamic sharia law, while it is permisssable for a man to marry any woman, it is not permissable for a woman to marry a non muslim and it is dishonorable for a muslim family to permit it.

Bear in mind, those who are born into a muslim family are muslim and it is not lawful for them to leave islam.

Now, if anyone is born a muslim but decides to leave islam, then they are condemned to death and it is incumbent upon to their own family to exact that penalty in order to protect their family honor.

How can anyone say this isn't a religious edict?

Instead of trying to put toothpaste back in the tube, ACLG brushes his teeth and smiles.

The worst damage ACLG and those like him do, is to make it more difficult for children of immigrant muslims in this country or those immigrants themselves to leave or renounce islam once they see the errors of islam.

Not only that, they (ACLG and his cohorts) would never do anything to try to put pressure on countries dominated by islam to grant more civil rights to minorities such as the Christians who live in those countries.

They (ACLG and his ilk) would never want to be painted with the dreaded politically incorrect lable of being 'islamophobic.'

Oh the horrors of not toeing the PC line.
