Its a happy day in the life of the Douglas family to honor the family in the Peyton Manning locker room, but more importantly was the VFL family I see in attendance. Its good to see all of the Past coaches in attendance wearing ORANGE. Prayers to the family, and thanks for being a VFL. :hi:

Great to see. What mended the rift? Didn't David and Karla say some harsh things about UT after Aaron's transfer and passing?

Idk, my step grandfather is friends with David and he's still a UT fan. I highly doubt the both of them said something bad about there almater, and from what I've been told it was the best thing for Aaron to transfer with his drug problem. Sadly he couldn't stop his drug problem.

I never saw anything about a rift. I saw a bunch of posters on here criticizing Aaron without knowing the facts. The kid obviously had some real problems and football wasn't a high priority. I wish nothing but the best for the Douglas family.

I believe they were unhappy with Dooley, not UT, for making Aaron transfer so far away to play.

Yes that is what I remember is they were upset with Dooley for making their son transfer so far away from home when he had an issue he was trying to resolve.

Just another example of Dooley not caring for his players.

I thought it got a little hostile, with the Douglas family blaming UT for Aaron's drug problem. Both parents claimed that UT football players introduced Aaron to drugs and insisted that he was clean at AWU and Bama. High school classmates said that Aaron's drug problem actually started in high school, but his parents didn't believe this and blamed the coaching changes at UT for Aaron's depression and drug abuse. Then Dooley escalated matters.

At any rate, the Douglas family has meant a lot to UT and I'm glad that any issues are behind us and that they were honored. Aaron had great potential and died much too young.

That's over the top. Dooley didn't make their son transfer, period...and was Aaron trying to resolve his issue when he got a DUI in Blount County on Christmas Eve in 2010 after running a stop sign? I mean Christmas Eve, really? This is a very sad story which has nothing to do with Dooley. This was a nice gesture by UT which I'm glad to see. I wish the best for the Douglas family.

Bama wouldn't honor him I guess.... he is a legacy and all.

The first game after his passing, Bama honored his parents on the field at the beginning of the game. Our helmets sported a sticker with his number for the entire 2011 season.

Dooley was a D bag to a lot of people, but I don't think he was to Aaron I could be wrong though

Very touching. You can still see the immense pain on the faces of Aaron’s parents. I feel for any parent who loses a child. My heart ached for them while watching this.

There's a time and a place for wisecracks. This isn't it. Try harder.

It's a good point. Shows the importance of the occasion imo. No need to look for ways to be offended. We get enough of that BS from the Al Sharptons of the world.

Exactly. Glad to see our former coaches still have class and are able to put their differences behind them to honor the Douglas family.

Dooley absolutely had a hand in Douglas transferring.

I am not going to place any blame for the subsequent events that occurred with Douglas but it was Dooley's decision to make Douglas transfer to a school at least 8 hours away from E TN or pay his own way.

Determined Douglas talks about depression, decision to leave UT » GoVolsXtra

Just a terrible situation all around. hopefully, the Douglas family can take some solace from this.

Can't imagine what the Douglas family went through with...
