I'm just saying. Another engineering flaw with the catch fence imo.

An engineering flaw is a fence that allows that entire 3400 pound car to go through and come to rest in the stands. Most of that car ended up thrown right back out on the track where it belonged, which is the point of that fence. It's unfortunate that people were injured, but the catchfence did what it was designed to do, and that's hold back as much as possible. Can't think of another fence that would hold back an entire vehicle that gets flung at it at speeds nearing 200 mph. Perhaps plate tracks should scale back the seating by several rows to keep people from getting so close to the fences.

Yeah its bad but there is a risk involved by the fans too. Also I don't see why some people are blaming Regan Smith or Brad K for causing that either.

People are stupid.

These are the same whackjobs that hounded Rusty Wallace and Sterling Marlin over Dale Sr.

How long before Nascar puts high tensile wiring up like baseball has for foul balls all over the stands?(baseball is not high tensile, just nylon)

I've heard that from a lot of people today, but how would that have helped today? There was debris flying into the upper deck.

Engineering flaw really? That's a stupid comment. The motor and who knows what else went through the fence. For the most part, it did its job. Guess they need to close off the lower level and just allow seating in the tower.....

Op is usually a knowledgeable and wise poster. But here he has badly missed the mark.

The fence did exactly what it was designed to do. As for the fans, you take a risk in buying tickets for seats at a restrictor plate race, especially lower seats in the tri-oval. You couldn't pay me to take a seat there at those tracks, let alone make me buy one.

I don't want sit there because it's unsafe. I don't want to sit there because its boring. There's about 2 seconds of action every minute.

It was a terrible accident and I hate that any fans got hurt but the media, as usual, is making this to be way worse that it is.

The fence kept the whole car from being seven rows deep in the stands.

Not sure how much it would have helped in this instance, but as long as cars can get flung into the catchfence, tracks should do their best to keep the fans back. It looks like the seats at Daytona and Talladega are very close to the fence. Removing some rows of seats and creating a buffer zone between the seats and fence can't necessarily be a bad thing.

Tony was visably shakin' up in Victory Lane. You could tell he didn't really even want to celebrate his win.
