Thinking of making a weekend trip down in March to catch Lady Vols/Bama softball game and Basevols against Vandy. Do you recommend Hotel Knoxville? Looks good online and can get a pretty decent deal....any tips or reviews appreciated!

It’s being renovated and the sign is a banner printed at a print shop. It’s clean from what I hear but really dated.

Just a quick search of that weekend March 20th you can get the Hilton downtown for 145 and Crowne for 125. Both are safe and walkable to campus or easy Uber ride

There's a brand new Hilton Garden on Papermill that's 5 minutes west of UT. There are also about 5 other options at that exit. Hampton, Holiday Inn Express, Red Roof (older recently renovated Holiday Inn), La Quinta, and I forget the name... might be a Mariott between Northshore and Weisgarber. All of those are in a safe area about 5 miles away straight shot down I-40.

Cumberland House on 11th st or Volunteer hotel, used to be Hilton Garden Inn on Cumberland on the strip are both fantastic, but probably sold out

Hilton downtown and Crowne Plaza both are right at 130$ night and both are fantastic as well.

They have really turned around the Papermill area. Great new hotels, lots of dining options. Bars close. Good spot.

Crown and Hilton for $130 are solid choices. Walk or cheap, quick ubers to the games and restaurants/Old City/etc.

Blow up Hotel Knoxville and build something practical.

I would rather stay downtown that west Knox any day.

I'm not knocking downtown by any means, I was simply making the point that in a city like Knoxville you don't have to limit yourself to hotels in one specific area. Traffic wise Knoxville definitely isn't Nashville or Atlanta.

I didn’t realize Hotel Knoxville was the old Hyatt, part of my childhood just died 😔
Interesting. I used to work there back in the 90's when I was in college. I worked in the business center. My GF was the manager of the business center and she got me the gig. I had to be there at 6AM or something crazy. I remember when the NCAA Regionals were there, maybe '93 or '94, the CBS crew and Purdue were staying there. I met Greg Gumbel and Gene Keady...his assistant was in there a ton as that was the place to make copies and send faxes.

My sister got married in Knox in Dec. of 2017 and the rehearsal dinner was there. It was a Marriott property at the time, IIRC.

Those are great memories. Did they still have a restaurant on the top floor when you were there? We would go there for Sunday brunch.
