"North Carolina Rep. Heath Shuler tells Fox News he's following through with his vow to challenge Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the role of the House's top Democrat"

maybe not in the right thread and i know politics isnt discussed on here often (for good reason probably) but...

how great would this be! i mean i really dont know alot about his politics since he's not in my district, but it would be great to have a former tennessee boy in a leadership role in washington. if he was to pull this upset, we could see some type of presidential run in the future. plus i really dont like nancy pelosi.

would you vote for president schuler (hypothetically)?

I like Schuler, and from what I can tell, he represents his district well. Otherwise it is unlikely a democrat would keep getting elected in a relatively conservative area. I know that there are many pockets of liberal leaning communities in western NC and historically, districts all over the appalachia actually vote for a person rather than a party, but still....

He seems very popular with a lot of people.

so you have no idea what he believes is right for the country but want to see him as a leader and possible president just because he went to UT? And people wonder why we're in this mess

I wish Heath well and hope that he successfully pulls the cape of the Winch Pelosi, but!
From my perspective, it appears that the past election got rid of most of the middle leaning Democrats and left the lion's share of the "Tax and Spend Socialist" Democrats in the House. Unfortunately for Heath, the Socialists/Neo-Communists now control the Left side of the isle and they will likely favor the Wicked Witch of the West.

I wonder if Erik Aenge will ever run for office one day? Peyton Mahning could be a good candidate for something in Tennessee. I'm not sure if Casey Clawson has the hairline for politics. But, you know, Tyler Breigh sure does have a full head of hair. Maybe he should run for office. He'd probably be better than Matt Sims or Brent Shaafer. Oh, and I forgot Andy Kellie.

True, but before I heard he was thinking about challenging Pelosi, I didn't know much about his politics so I looked them up. He's actually quite moderate and learns conservative on quite a few issues even though he's Democrat.

I hope he doesn't win. As bad as I hate to say it, I HOPE that Pelosi stays in, she polarizes everyone. The right hates her and the the independents are starting to see the same, the longer she's in the better it is for the right.

Shuler is possibly the most conservative Democrat in Congress. He is one of the leaders of the Blue Dog Coalition.

If he runs I highly doubt he gets enough votes to overtake Pelosi (although I'd love it) as the minority leader in the House. The Blue Dog Coalition lost 29 seats in this past election.

I believe we are at a point that it doesn't manner what is best for the right, left or center. Our elected officials need to put their partisan politics aside long enough to try to solve the mess our country is in.

there are no blue dog dems, the passage of obamacare proved that.

I don't think shuler has a 'blue dog' coalition anymore. I think all pelosi's libs will vote for her. which is good, because we need her as minority leader for more years, that should lose more seats for the socialist dems.

Seriously. For too long, both sides have spent way too much energy trying to bring down the other side rather than actually accomplish something meaningful. Nobody ever talks about issues, rather if a republican says something, then democrats say the opposite, and so on and so forth. Like when a republican introduced a bill and as soon as Obama came out in support of it, the senator withdrew it.

How is that good for anybody?

It's not just politicians either. The other day, I was involved in a conversation where somebody was railing against "Liberal Arts" Colleges. He was cursing the liberals and blaming everything on the colleges because they are called "Liberal Arts"! I was dumbfounded.

I asked him if he refused to eat cookies where the recipe called for a "liberal" sprinkling of chocolate chips as well. So much for rationality.

That's the great thing about this country we live in. People are not only allowed to vote without any political knowledge but are encouraged to do so. Luckily for us, this is still the best system out there.

shuler had a hard enough time with the redskin playbook, I doubt he's got the smarts for the Speaker's position... this will go nowhere. And no, President Shuler wouldn't fly either. The boy was fantastic at TN, that's about it.

Ainge would never pass the drug screening to get work in congress.
