The Republican-controlled House approved a $642 billion defense budget Friday that would cancel proposed reductions in military personnel and hardware in President Barack Obama's 2013 budget plan.
Despite the threat of a White House veto, the House passed its budget 299-120.
But it rejected an amendment that would have barred indefinite detention without trial of terrorist suspects, even for U.S. citizens seized on American soil.
