No what's sad is it only took what, the 17 or 18 years that the Internet has existed to get it done. One might have believed this to already be policy. If this vote had not been made public.

First of all, that bill is titled: " Disaster Relief and Summer Jobs Act of 2010 ". So not all votes would be strictly for, or against, this particular subset.

I couldn't find the exact wording about accessing pornography but I can assure you it is illegal and completely against the agreement between user and the USG. From what I understand... the hoopla is about the extreme measures the this bill places the USG as going towards in order to prevent access to pornography. On every single decently administered USG network I've been on... all internet access is completely blocked out and will be logged and alerted if a user attempts to access anything illegal (p2p, porn, hategroups, etc.)

Basically, it's as if all handguns are going to be seized in order to prevent handgun related shootings and threats. Also, this is about lawmakers trying to appease their constituents.

Hence the reason for the bill, there appears to be, at least, a decent amount of govt. agencies that do not police their own networks. What's crazy is a web filter is not very expensive so it comes down to pure, government laziness.

No, that vote count was on the Amendment to get it into the bill.

I'm sure once the SEIU organizes the porn industry, this won't be an issue

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if this affects UT. In order to block UT employees from porn, will they block it from the network. This is the same network that UT students use in dorms. Will students still get porn in dorms? I know when I was a freshman at UT, I would not have been pleased if this was the case. You can block me from illegally downloading music, but I'll be damned if you take away my ability to watch porn.

Just examining one side effect that would frustrate me.

All of this is true. I access a USG network on a daily basis. A warning shows on the screen before you enter the network. This is a "feel good" vote. Anybody stupid enough to look at porn at work deserves to get fired and shouldn't need a warning or law.

Without a doubt.
