Reportedly up 21% from last year - good news for those of us who like jobs and shelter. Traditionally housing drives recoveries (and recessions) so hopefully this will kick start more GDP growth and further insulate us from Europe.

Not an expert but what's going on with existing home sales? Would love to see a housing recovery.

So would I.

The housing market is a big part of the economy. lots of trickle down from home sales.

Don't know specifics for sure and I'm mobile so I won't look it up but Case-Shiller price index (a standard measure of housing prices) I recall being up ~2% in the spring (reported in the summer) so maybe that points to the huge number of vaccant houses and foreclosures beig sorted out. It's a long and painful process but things are looking up.

while there is optimism it is still very cautious. It's the industry I'm in and we've been pretty thin for a few years. Numbers are on the rise though
