Houston hires big name coach

Not so much jealous. But we would all have to agree that holgorson is a better hire than Dooley or Jones. Jury still out on Pruitt. And they handled their business the right way.
How do you know it was handled "right away"? Could've been and most likely were back channel negotiations going on for a while. Most would be very surprised to find out how many of these 'quick hires' aren't quick at all...

True, but it seemed to work out OK for ESD. Could have been better but could have been far worse.

As far as the OC, I'll believe the when/who when the ink dries. We've seen enough of these searches to realize that speculation and name dropping by the media doesn't mean squat in the end.

I'm just thinking a big name OC might help sway a couple of those WRs being mentioned or might get another QB interested along with nailing down Wright.

Agree on these searches. I have been shaking my head seeing guys like Gase or Kitchens or Long even mentioned. Most NFL guys are gonna try to stay in the NFL if they can and a guy like Chip Long likely isnt jumping from ND to the mess in Knoxville.

Isn't he the coach that beat Tennessee the 1st game of the year? Maybe you should check your condescending attitude towards a Coach you can't even beat.
Well now Butch Jones has emerged as one of their candidates for the WV job. I think Dana left because he likely would have been fired next year with a young team and a harder schedule. Missouri and NC State out of conference. So he got out with a fresh 5 years. He underachieved badly this past year.

Since Freeze and Miles went on to take HC positions elsewhere, CJP and Fulmer may be waiting to see what shakes out of the end-of-season NCAA and NFL firings, and then try hire the best OC becomes available from that crowd. Under the circumstances I think that is what I might do unless the "right" guy suddenly became available. Anyway, I would rather they take their time and get a quality OC than to just reach their hands into the bucket and pull out another "Botch-job" OC. Right now, finalizing this recruiting class should be priority 1... at the same time, the OC recruiting should be a VERY CLOSE priority 2. Without quality recruits it really won't matter who the OC is, will it? Consider this: 1) How long till Signing Day? 2) How long till Spring Training? 3) How long till 1st game of 2019 season? Now, if you were CJP, what would your # 1 priority be... recruiting or OC? I'm not being a smart aleck, just realistic, as I believe they are both very close in importance with recruiting being # 1 at this point.

Why leave P5 for G5 job? Money sure. I guess he is giving up on any chance of taking a team to the playoffs.

As far as hiring a coach, Bama had issues before they hired Saban.
(1) Several coaching hires within a 20 year period.
(2) Hired Mile Price and fired him before season even began
(3) Had Rich Rodriquez lined up but he embarrassed them at by pulling out at the last minute
My point is we are not unique. Other programs have had hiring issues also

Always nice to see a University handle a hiring process so quickly and effectively.

If we had just fired Pruitt and were looking, how many of you would have him in your top 5?

Leading change in any organization is very difficult. Having done so multiple times, I can't imagine how hard it would be with teens/early 20s. Posts like this are ridiculous. They accomplish nothing but do indicate that a lack of awareness is prevalent as it pertains to the depths of UT woes (prior to CJP) and the time/process it takes to rebuild. I'm as tired of "rebuilding" as the next guy. But CJP has a track record and has sat at the feet of probably the greatest college football coaches of all time (or at least in the top 5). Give him 3 years at a minimum.

Clock was ticking on him in Morgantown - he has underachieved there and the natives were getting quite restless. Give Dana credit...he smelled the smoke in a timely fashion and bolted while his name still has/had some cachet.

Do some people just live to be miserable? In some ways, I want the staff to take their time on future hires just to watch the hilarity that ensues with our fans. In reality, hiring quickly does not equal hiring right. Pruitt hasn't shown me yet to 'not' trust him. I'll wait for the hire and results.

Don’t think he’s that ambitious. This is a Tuberville to Cincy move.

If it doesn’t work out in Houston I can imagine him chartering a fishing boat out of Islamorada while peddling live bait and crappy beer out of a styrofoam cooler. Probably selling a little weed on the side.

Well, I didn’t say “right away”. That is false. I didn’t mention the speed of their hire. The “right way” (which is what I actually typed) is defined as not being a national embarrassment.

what championships has this big name won?? Nothing at West Virginia.

He won the Big East championship, played and defeated Dabo at Clemson in a BCS bowl. Had a couple of 10 win seasons there. This during a time their conference collapsed, they were forced to move into a conference where every other team basically is over 1000 miles away and their recruiting classes for the last 20 years are usually in the mid 40s to the mid 50s. They basically have to recruit in the area where their conference games are on TV each week from over 1000 miles away from that footprint.. It's a tough tough job.

He wasn’t getting an extension at WVU. They were upset about his recent record. He got while the getting was good.

Not like WVU will get anyone better. Hard to recruit there. UH got lucky for him to fall into their laps.

Embarrassed nationally when nationally don’t care. 😴

In the world of coaching hire blunders, Alabama can’t hold a candle to Tennessee. Worst thing is theirs is in their past and Tennessee’s is in the present (10 yrs of it)
