While it sucks to lose on the worst rule in all of football, I'm definitely impressed by the rapid progress of our guys. This is NOT the same team that we saw the past three years under Dooley. Those teams never improved and seem to constantly regress. This team has gotten better every single game this year.

A few thoughts:

Playcalling. How 'bout that playcalling? This is some of the best playcalling I can ever remember at UT. Even during the "Golden Years" (1992 - 2004), we weren't really known for that, which was why Spurrier so often got the best of us.

Defense. Overall the "D" played spectacularly. Yes, team speed issues got the best of us once again. Georgia managed to beat us on the outside quite a few times. All the same, to hold Georgia to only 31 points (in regulation) is actually quite an achievement. Aaron Murray may be the best QB in the nation.

Worley. He's getting better with each game. He'll never be Aaron Murray, but he made the plays he needed to make, and didn't make any big errors.

Neal is a Beast. Even if we lost, he was the MVP of the game. Definitely his best performance.

Passion. We saw hints of it against Florida, but our guys played their hearts out in this game. Definitely a 180 degree reversal from the past few years, when our guys would often look as if they were sleepwalking through the second half. Dooley's teams would've given up at halftime, down two touchdowns.

Player Development. You can see it this year. Every coaching staff has its strengths and weaknesses, but I can tell that Butch Jones' staff has a strength in player development and that's a positive sign.

I've been very positive about our guys' improvement this year. Even with the loss to Florida, I thought we looked much improved. I'm bummed that we lost this game, especially when victory was within inches. All the same, I'm excited about the future of this program.

I've put a lot of confidence in Butch, but this is the first time I've truly felt like we are on our way back to competing with the top of the SEC.

Agree on Worley. It's such a refreshing change to see the results of kids getting coached week to week. He made some great throws he had to and when he was rushed/pressured he didn't force balls and actually got rid of. There was only one ball that i cringed when he threw it.

During Butch's post game interview he stated they run a lot of plays in practice that we don't get to see and they don't get to use if the team doesn't execute them well. Team picked up their performance so we got a chance to see more of what they've been working on.

Future looks much brighter - there are still problems, but last night's game was a MAJOR step forward.

Play calling opened up in the second half and was the best it's been all year. First half not so much. I just want to see us stay open and varied like we did the last half. First half C second half A

Passion A++++++

Worley is now serviceable, if he continues to improve our offense may be all right for that home stretch. Would still rather see a freshman getting experience and building for the future unless he has a dual threat qb he's going after for next year then I understand it more. C+ up from an F

Defense has surprised me. Was worried about a Ga reject coming in but he has been much better than we thought. Very impressed and I have been very skeptical of the coordinator. B because of under performing against less talented teams and until I see what we do against teams like Ky, Vandy, Missouri, Auburn

Player development, all I can say is wow. Another A++++++++

Adding in, the discipline has been so much better. We got to get a few little personal foul things worked out but I'm so proud overall how we'll it's improved. A-

Special teams A. It's nice to see it as a help rather than a hindrance.

Time management c+ / B-

Took serious balls to call that flip to Neal on 4th down. Props Bajakian.

Social pages say we got the biggest balls of all.

But in all seriousness it was so nice in the second half to see us play to win for once rather than not to lose.

Good post, loco. Agree that time management was one issue, particularly at the end of the 1st half.

Think the end game was more debatable. No matter what we did, GA was probably going to get the ball back with 90+ seconds. Of course, in hindsight, if we could've just run the clock down another 10 seconds, we might have won, but you know what they say about hindsight.

You couldn't risk not scoring though. The touchown had to happen or we might not score.

Another point is that the Oline really go a lot more physical in the second half. We need these guys to keep it up for the rest of the season.

I am very proud of our team and our fans, Neyland was rockn'. Those recruits had to have had a great experience yesterday, that's the way we roll at Tennessee! :pepper:

Tbh they might have given it to us considering how ridiculously wide open Neal's last td was. Neal could have kneed it at the 1, but if you don't score on 3rd down you have to kick a field goal. If Ga did intentionally give it up, then apparently they liked their chances better down 7 with 2 min left, as opposed to either down 7 with about 1:15 left or down 3 with :30-40 sec left.
