I remember this question has been answered when Freak first put up the "an official ESPN affiliate" banner, and everybody was freaked out. My impression was we (I really mean Freak et al.) have the complete autonomy over the site, and the VN will remain free at least in the foreseeable future.

I generally don't care who owns/operates the site as long as I can come to this great place to chat with others about the Tennessee sports. However, one thing did worry me a bit: I was a user of "wearesc.com" for 3 years, which was also "an official ESPN affiliate". Recently, the forum was officially moved to the ESPN domain, and an ESPNInsider subscription was required to access the forum.

I am wondering if that is the path VN would eventually go down, and I certainly hope not; not because I can't afford that $2.5/month subscription, but because I enjoy chatting with all kinds of vol fans, as well as fans of other schools. IMO, making the VN premium would make this forum more exclusive and turn away a lot of casual vol fans and outsiders, which is what I don't want to see.

I know I am only one trivial user, who has never financially contributed to the VN (even use AdBlock here); I don't know if my question will be answered; but I want to make this clear: I just want to see the VN getting better and better.

Thanks Freak and others make all these possible.

Freak would have the official word on this of course, but I would say your impression is 100% correct.

Good to hear this from Freak. One last question, is there any way that we, as membersof VN, can support the VN money-wise? I know you never asked for any monetary support (at least I am aware of), but I am wondering if you are willing to put together a list of things that we can easily help the VN, such as disabling adblock, clicking on trojan/spam-free ads, etc.?

The below excerpt should be read aloud in your best approximation of Sam Elliot's voice:

It wasn't free. Your grandpappy, Grey Empire, paid 'em off with some coal-mining money and a hot dog stand.
