How did Bennett stay eligible

Lots of stories out about Stetson Bennett being in school for 6-7 years and not getting a degree. How is it possible that he remained eligible to play football without getting a degree?

Change majors a time or two, it can be done-easily. He transferred how many times? His transcript probably comes in volumes.

I know this from experience as I took the leisurely route like Tommy Callahan for undergrad.

How could you be 25 or 26 years of age and hanging around a campus that whole time taking some kind of classes and NOT cobble enough credits to get a degree of some type? Only at Kirby's Georgia, that's how boys and girls, so come to Georgia and you'll play but school? Naaaaaahhh!!!

If you think about it, he may have been pretty smart about it. Most guys get their 140 hours or so and get a worthless General Studies degree. I remember back in the late 80’s and 90’s seeing our players introduced on ABC (I think) and under their picture having Urban Studies as their major. Then, learning that was a “degree in football”. If he’s smart, he will get a degree in something of value.

If he was smart he would already have a degree in something of value.

For the benefit of posters under 40 .... I'm not saying that they necessarily did anything illegal to keep Stetson Bennett eligible, but it was academic integrity issues which brought them down the last time they were elite ...

Jan Kemp's UGA legacy

In the aftermath of the Jan Kemp trial, Vince Dooley was forced into early retirement (though, he was allowed to remain on as athletic director) and UGA's new administration made a conscious effort to de-emphasize athletics. I can easily see something like this happening to them again. They are drunk with success.

With a $4.5 million dollar contract and $700K signing bonus, do you think he’s dumb?
