I don't get it. Four words to sum up an entire season.

We will be Auburn like this year! LOL :blush2:
Tyrone Prothro He was Alabama's offense against Florida until he got hurt. They had no passing threats against us. The only big pass play Alabama hit on us was at the end of the game. Florida's offense just sucked all year long. We probably would have only lost to them by three points if Colquitt didn't try that fake punt.

There's alot of these in football...2004 Auburn beats LSU by 1, Auburn beats us by 30 (I forgot the actual amount), Georgia beats LSU by 35 (or so), we beat Georgia at Georgia. There have got to be thousands of these situations in college football and none of them ever add up... that's why they play the games.

It is not hard to understand. Our offense was bad, and our special teams were worse. It was the same story in the losses against Georgia, USC, Notre Dame, and Vandy, and also in the wins against UAB and in the first half against LSU. It seems like things were better against Ole Miss and Kentucky, but maybe that was because we were playing Ole Miss and Kentucky.

I'm optimistic that the offense will be much better, and I really don't think the kicking game could be any worse. Our defense was good enough to keep us in every ball game, but, taking the Bama game as an example, I'll go out on a limb and say that UT will never win a football game in which it scores only 3 points.

Our offense was bad, to put it nice, probably explains it all.

Aren't they always?

Not rocket science, is it?

Quick check -- Games in which we've scored three or fewer since 1980 (all losses):

2006
Alabama

2002
Miami
Maryland (embarassment)

1994
Florida (how could we forget?)

1983
Pittsburg (season opener)

1981
Georgia (another opener)

1980
Alabama

The last time we scored "3" and didn't lose was in 1964 in a 3-3 tie with LSU. However, we were able to pull out a win in the 1959 season- opening barnburner against Auburn, which ended 3-0.

On a side note, to temper the disappointment with last season: in 1909, the Vols didn't score a single point until the last game of the season, against the perennial powerhouse. . . . .Transylvania.

Luckily we played with garlic in our pants and crucifixes around our necks ....

That may have been around the same time they played cross-town rival Maryville College.

Not that year. We did tie with Centre (not misspelled) College and UTC. Every other game was against a school that you KNEW had a football team. All losses.

Our record against then "cross-town rival" Maryville ended at a whopping 25-1-1. The one loss came in 1906, 0-11.

What's even weirder, is that we had 2 ties before we ever scored a single point.
