How did Vandy get this good and UT...

Has been struggling? Vandy has been getting better under Franklin and UT hasn't made a bowl in 3 years. I love coach Jones but now we've got an uphill battle. Vandy isn't a gimme win.

Have you been under a rock?

Here's how you nuke your program to the stone age . . . . Fire a coach and then blow the replacement hire twice within two years forcing you to bring in a third guy to pick up the pieces left due to attrition and zero continuity.

Vandy is no gimme. Jones will be blowing Vandy away in 2 years with or without Franklin. Jones is killing it in instate recruiting. Franklin has had several years and done a pretty good job. I bet he leaves for Maryland in a couple years.

Vandy is definitely better but Franklin has still yet to beat anybody worth a crap in 3 years . . . which makes this a dangerous game since we're not any good either.

Vandy actually hasn't beaten 1 quality team since Franklin arrived. Winning that many games at Vandy regardless of schedule is impressive, but it's not like they are knocking off top 10 teams. They have had the advantage of playing weak non conference teams and SEC teams that are beat up and DOA by the time they play them. Let's stop acting like they are a legitimate top 25 team all of a sudden. Look at the schedules UT and Vandy have played and put them side by side.

totally agree, but UT also had the benefit of playing a Florida team that was giving the game away and was lousy on offense

Vandy is getting better by for sure. They have also had the benefit of playing beat up, injured, and demoralized teams ( ut last year ). They are not a juggernaut like what they or the media believe, just a tough hard nosed team that don't quit! Ut is on the opposite end of that with the most difficult schedule I could imangine for our first year coach and players in that system.

Right as rain. Looks like Florida is following our blueprint well. Let's hope they keep Mushchamp one more year and fire him.

Vandy beat the crap out of Florida at Florida. Florida beat the ever living snot out of UT at Florida. Vandy is getting better and better with a backup RS freshman. UT is getting worse and worse with a freshman quarterback.

You wanna do the math or shall I?

Franklin as been at Vandy for 3 years. We had Kiffin and Dooley it adds up. Butch has UT number 2 in recruiting and we haven't had a winning record in what 5 or 6 years. And yet he has us ranked #2. Help is on the way. Butch is the right man for UT. Payback is coming.

I can concede that point.

I just think people ignore Vandy's schedule the last 3 years. They have just enough cream puffs to get that impressive win total. Vandy would get demolished playing our schedule this year

Vandy beat uga and uf. 2 teams that beat us. Just because we hate vandy doesn't mean we shouldn't act like we're betternthan them in 2012-2013. I just hope we beat uk because they have gotten better as the year has progressed as well. And we're on our 3rd string qb.

To answer the OP question. Coaching is the difference and the fact that Franklin has had 3 years of recruiting. Vanderbilt was a Top 50 recruiting class before him, and know they have had 3 Top 25 recruiting classes. On top of that, the players don't quit and play for 4 quarters. If Vanderbilt does not start off slow in the 1st quarter they are ususally competitive because they are not an offensive juggernaut ever since Carta-Samuels went down. As far as teams being injured, you game plan for who you are playing and the situations as the game progresses and yesterday was a great example of grinding out the clock to get the W. Vanderbilt did not have to sustain long drives because they intercepted 3 balls and brought them inside the 20 for short scores. When Florida scored to cut it to 14, Vanderbilt opened up the playbook and drove 80 yards to stop the momentum.

It should be a great game in 2 weeks with both teams fired up to play.
