How do I use my smartphone as a WiFi hotspot?

I will be traveling this weekend and need to be able to get internet access on the road. Literally. I've read where you can somehow turn your cell signal into a WiFi hotspot.

I'm hoping to be able to use Watched on to catch some games while headed down the interstate. Any advice on how to make this work?

Ha. No, I won't be watching football while driving. Got to keep one hand free to hold my beer.

But really, I'll be a passenger if I can get this set up.

Also, can anyone say how well a mobile hotspot via smartphone will work heading down the interstate? I am tech deficient.

Why not just watch on the phone? I can't imagine the effort to connect a laptop to a mobile hot spot would be worth it

I've surprisingly found that watching videos in that matter doesn't have much buffering. I have the MLB.TV package and because the wifi at the restaurant I work at (bartending) isn't too strong at the bar, I just tether from my phone and it works pretty much perfectly.

How much data does your plan come with? Even if you're using your phone as a wifi hotspot, you're still using data.

If you get the watch ESPN app as long as that is part of your cable package much easier to watch on your phone. Can't believe you planned this trip during the game. What were you thinking?

It is a worst-case scenario. I have to drive hours to a funeral Sunday and will miss the US Open final. I will take my Kindle, set up mobile hotspot and watch at whatever quality I can get. Verizon gave me an extra 1G of data today at no cost.

Funeral is Sunday because guy left instructions that his funeral was not to interfere with college football games. Respect.

check with Verizon, most new More Everything forward plans include mobile hotspot at no extra charge. Id youre still grandfathered into UNL data you will require an upcharge to use mobile hotspot, which will remove unl data and cap with a 5gb replacement. which is all contingent upon the Estelle Getty of cell phones having an untethered internet access feature. If Blackberry supports this and youre on tne correct plan you should go to settings-mobile hotspot-turn on-enter password.

sorry for your loss. id recommend not streaming a ton of data, 1gb is equal to about :30-1hr of non-hd tv viewing. if that.

use wifi if possible. have you considered an LTE connected tablet? there are tons of great android tablets for cheap if all you do is watch sports? id recommend the LG Gtab 8.3 X

If you're planning to watch the entire game, that's gonna be a **** ton of data. If you could settle for listening, do the I Heart Radio app and listen to the game on WIVK. Won't use near as much data, and you get blessed with Bob Kessling.

I was just going to say I couldn't imagine how many gigs a couple hours of a streaming game would be. If you can pull it off I'd definitely try to watch it in SD rather than HD.

Watch Espn will only stream in HD, but will default to SD depending on data speed. i believe.
