My son may be a div.1 prospect at linebacker. He is a junior this year and had been undersized so not much effort was put into promoting him to the colleges. This year however he turned into a monster (drug free) and he is now 6-1, 205lbs and growing. Last year he was playing and starting in the 150s and had such strength and quickness that he played half the time at def. tackle to break down the line and pressure the QBs. He's started every year in HS and was was freshman of the year. He also grew up in South Florida YFL so he has a good foundation of instuction under him and has played against quality talent. Most kids already have scholarships sewn up by the time they finish thier Junior years. Whats a late bloomer to do? Any college coaches out there feel free to send a PM and I will provide more details. PS: He is also on a team with a poor record and few stars.

sell his upside. and promote. there's some companies out there that can put together a package and send out stuff to schools. They might be able to do it this late in the game.

Walk-on and earn a scholarship. probably not what you want to hear, but thats realistic.

The other option is he needs to go to a combine and do well, i.e. 40 time, bench press reps etc. If he can excel at the combine it will open the doors.

College coaches are always looking for under the radar players. If your son's school has decent game films, you might want to send some to target schools. Places like Kansas State, Fresno State, and Southern Miss have built very nice programs with less heralded talent. I know in basketball, someone looks at all the tape that comes into the office. That might be the best way for your son to get noticed.

I cannot speak for Southern Miss, however, KSU built its program by keeping Kansas players at K State. A lot were under the radar, but I would go as far to say that 75% of that roster was homegrown talent.

Look at their media guides. Snyder's best teams also had a lot of players from Florida. That was one area they drew a great deal of their skill position talent from. They also took advantage of the fact Kansas has a lot of very good junior college programs.

Hopefully he has at least a 3.0 GPA.If he does, I think you send his transcript along with the game film now, to as many schools as you choose.I'd also note his 40 time .I know several top prospects have their own website in high school.

you also need his vertical jump, weight lifting maxs, and measurements.

6' 1, 205 could play strong safety if he has any speed.

It would also help to get in touch with any boosters you know.

good luck

Send him to camps and combines if possible. That will get his name out there. Make films and send them to schools of interest/recruiting services. If the video is good enough, he may get some big offers(ala Todd Cox).

I am pretty sure that selling your children is illegal.

Even in Tennessee.

I bet you can do it in Florida. I've even heard that you can discharge a firearm into another apartment and get away with it.

get
bench max
squat max
40 yard dash, 20 yard dash (some colleges are now looking at this more)
10 yard shuttle (not required but is good in showing change of direction)
and of course the basics
Height and Weight

thats a pretty complete data packet

Like I said, send him to a couple combine/camps. They can make tapes of him and record his times and send them to schools. You should also make highlight videos of him showing what he can do on the field.

get good highlight film on him, see if you can get him enrolled in some football camps at a few colleges he wants to attend.....send the tapes out to as many schools as possible.....

or he could go to juco for one or two years and dominate there and get a schollarship to a bigger college. that will also give him more time to develop
