I know there is 28 scholly rules in place. While looking at scout I notice Auburn already has 28 commits with several top 100 guys still considering them.

If another player wants to commit does someone have to decommit? Can the school force a decommit?

and OU has 29 is 28 only an SEC rule?

Not trying to be a goof, just some clarification.

I believe it is an SEC rule. Thought it was 27 though, I may be wrong however.

Depending on their recruiting situation from last year, they can roll back a couple of scholarships. I think the limit is 2. So if they had 26 last year, they could add 2 to their total this year, and end up with 30 or whatever. There are also the commits that wait to see if some of the higher end recruits sign elsewhere so that they can drop their ink for a given school.

It is rather complicated. Basically, they can have 25 in a year, a couple of mid-termers can count against the previous class if scholarships were not used. Yes, teams can pull their offers from a recruit on NSD. It can and does happen.

The SEC rule is that we can only have 28 commits. The scholarship rule is different, and it is an NCAA thing. I remember reading about it in "Meat Market". Most schools will over-offer and end up with more commits than scholarships, the main reason is that there are usually 4-5 kids who do not qualify academically. These guys are then sent to Hargrave (or wherever else) to get qualified.

15.5.6.1 Bowl Subdivision Football. [FBS] There shall be an annual limit of 25 on the number of initial counters (per Bylaw 15.02.3.1) and an annual limit of 85 on the total number of counters (including initial counters) in football at each institution. (Revised: 1/10/91 effective 8/1/92, 12/15/06)

This needs to be sticky, cuz I had this same question, and it comes up frequently.

From what I understand:

NCAA rule is 25 scholarships per academic year.

If a team enrolls less than the allotted 25, they can backcount the amount they were short the following year, as long as all of the backcounts are early enrollees.

The NCAA has no limit on "sign and place" above the 25 limit. So OU can sign 50, and place 25.

The SEC, however, now has a 28 cap on sign and place / enroll combo. But EE's don't fall under this limitation. I think its just from NSD to June(?) where this SEC cap occurs.

So a SEC team can have a class size of 53, theoretically, if 25 were EE's and they used 0 scholarships the previous year, and they sign and place the max (3).

I'm not positive on any of that, but thats what I gather from reading a bunch of posts here on the subject.

I am pretty sure this is wrong. I think we can have 25 per year, are able to backcount 2 if EE's, and sign and place 3. This gives us a total cap of 30, IIRC.

the SEC rule (28) relates to the number of letters of intent a school can take on NSD fot the following fall. Doesn't include any early entries the school may have that they were able to back count on the previous signing class. Tennessee has room to back count 2 and are planning on doing that. Auburn can back count 5 and they are trying to do that this season. Why they continue to recruit.

as far as getting into school this fall, that number is 25 as a max as far as counters are concerned. You have to add together early entries plus fall entries minus back counters to get the 25 number. That means with 2 back counters, Tennessee can enter 27 total players on this class (I will be shocked if Tennessee gets to 27. More likely we get 22 or 23 in).

Of course you can't exceed the 85 number either.

the 28 rule is only applicable in the SEC.

sorry, over looked these questions.

A school can pull an offer on a kid committed or not. CLK did that last year with several recruits. Schools can decommit just like players can decommit. Nothing is binding until LOI is signed.
