I'm again watching one of my favorite shows tonight, the last Sugar Bowl, and at the end of the 1st half, UF scores from the 2 with a formation Alabama would never use. They put 3 OLs at the left sideline with a WR behind them and facing the QB. The other 3 OLs are on the ball in the middle of the field, w the QB (Burton), a back and the kicker in an I-formation behind the center. Without a TO, the D actually covered the play pretty well (they'd seen it on film) putting 5 guys on each side w 1 rover between them.

On this occasion, the QB hands off to the back and he runs off tackle and just makes it. However, if the QB had faked the handoff and run right, he'd have easily won a foot race to the corner vs a lineman. And if he didn't have a clear path to the corner, he pitches to the kicker who's trailing and completely uncovered.

If the 4 guys lined up on the left sideline are left un or undercovered, the QB just flips it to the receiver and he walks in behind 3 OLs.

Worst case, the QB doesn't like the D alignment and either takes TO or a 5-yard penalty, then kick a gimme FG.

Is this the same Florida team you said would go 5-7 last year?

Yep. And not one troll Gator disagreed with me. One guy said 4-8 was possible.

They did have the 101st Offense in FBS. That usually qualifies for about 3-9.

UF sure looked like a 5-7 team in the Sugar Bowl.

sounds like you are describing one of those plays Spurrier invented. I have only one strategy. Knock the living crap out of them farther back down the field, so they don't have the opportunity to run that screwy play. Of course, if memory serves, Florida still lost that game. Is that why it is one of your favorites?

Simple, just don't get tricked by the trickery.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me..uh....can't get fooled again."

man to man with a fast safety playing a spy role.

and pray your DL is good enough to not let their OL push into nzone

After I predicted here they'd go 5-7 and they ended up 11-1, I had to hope for the worst for those overachieving lizards. It was a blast from the 1st play to the last.

I'm not making any predictions this year.

That play is ran based on how the D is aligned.

If u load 7+ in the box, they will throw the screen.

If u put 6 in the box...they will run the dive read option

The best way to defend this would be(had a play drew up but couldnt get it to line up right so ill explain)

4 man front Both DTs in 2 technique, Both DEs in 5 technique

2 LBs lined up 1 yard directly behind DTs
1 LB spy lined up over center playing about 5 yds off ball spying QB

1 CB lined up in front of screen, 1 lined up over extra WR

Both safties lined up 5 yards off ball directly over screen

Assignments-
DTs crash A Gaps
LBs crash B gaps
Back LB/S spies QB
Option side DE stays home looks for ball
Screen side DE plays Contain gets in screen
One corner presses extra WR
Corner on screen side and both safeties come screaming to blow up screen
