Well, I was really glad with how well we did last year. I think we have a good chance of winning the NIT tournament before the season starts. And if we do win the the NIT it will be a great confidense builder for the team and the fans. And hopefully with the confidense builder we could make it to the sweet 16 and even farther.

We aren't winning the preseason NIT. Carolina will waltz through to the title. That said, a Sweet 16 appearance would be an exceptional accomplishment. More likely, a tournament appearance with a first weekend exit.

I don't know I still have the confidense in my team and North Carolina does have a good team, but the Vols have experienced players under Bruce Pearl. Last year we were still adjusting to Coach Pearl's ways. Now we have veterens from last year who know how he coachs so I think they will be even better this and have a good chance at winning the preseason NIT.

I think with the freshman, we are a more talented team then last year. Look for us to maybe struggle a little early with less experience, but then get much better as the season goes on.

if we have to run for 40 minutes every game we wont get any farther than last year. that pace over the season wore us down. if we have any kind of half court/low post game, so we can slow down when we need a break then we can to the final four. however, i dont think we are there yet. childress improving along with adding chism and crews gets us a lot closer but i think we need another strong year of improvement and recruiting before we can make a deep tourney run.

We probaly will not go real deep but I'm gerunting a sweet 16

I'm with you on the Sweet 16 appearance being a very good accomplishment for this team, but we do have a chance to win the preseason NIT. It's early in the season, and as we all know, anything can happen in college basketball. You don't know what you're going to see out of teams this early in the season, so don't be so sure that UNC breezes through this tournament.

No doubt the vols will be more talanted this year than they were last year...but experience at point guard is very key,we have the players they just need game time...that being said i think a sweet 16 appearance would be a great accomplishment!

Go Vols

i think bradshaw can hold down the point until ramar is ready to take over. dane is gonna have to be the team leader, and given the way he played last year i think he is capable of doing that.

I seriously doubt that Dane will be playing the point.

We should get to New York in the Preseason NIT. If we make the PNIT Championship, I will be very impressed. I agree with Hat though, we have no shot at beating UNC.

We have a more talented team than last season, however, we are less experienced. This means we will most likely lose our big games, early. If we win 1 out of 3 against Memphis, OSU, and Texas, then we are in good shape (it will hurt a lot if we lose all 3.) Florida should beat us in Gainesville, however, hopefully our players will have matured by our second meeting. We have a chance to basically follow KU's maturation process from last year: struggle early, play great late in the season. I still doubt we will be able to win the SEC Tourney, however, we may be able to make the finals (depending upon where Florida is seeded.) I look for us to make it into the NCAA Tourney seeded somewhere between 4 and 6. We should win the first round game. Anything after that is a bonus, as we prepare for 2007-2008.

Looking at the schedule, I think the best the Vols can hope for is 22-8, heading into the the SEC Tournament. However, that is assuming that our young team will not lose any games that they are not supposed to. Realistically, I would say we will enter the postseason somewhere between 18 and 20 wins, on the bubble, and needing a good showing in the SEC Tourney.

Haven't you heard, Florida has built a dynasty. Nobody in the SEC stands a chance.:eek:hmy: Seriously, they are complettely stacked but I'll be interested to see if they are that good or if they were just a very decent team that got hot at the right time. As far as UT is concerned, I think we have the right coach and the right players to make another excellent run. Will we do as good as last year....its hard to live up to a 2 seed, especially when you know we won't sneak up on anyone

I don't know what the official lines are, but to make the NCAA tourney this year I'd say Gators are a virtual lock, UT paying 3 to 5 as they ought to make it.

To win the whole thing, I'd say Florida ought to be 8 to 1. UT ought to be about 75 to 1. Now, before you go getting all mad, remember that despite Florida's success and winning of the SEC tournament this year, they entered the NCAA tourney at 30 to 1.

Contrary to the neighsayers on this board, UT will have a top 20 team this season. I'm not sure why there is a love affair with UNC here. They aren't anything special - that was a couple of years ago.

UT will start the season off strong, much like last year and fade down the stretch much like last year. The style wins early, but we'll get tired late again and lose in the second round of the NCAA. I predict another SECE title, at worst splitting with FL but we should be favored in all other east games. That's right - predicting UT to take the east over FL. I think we're in their head now.

UT's a good team, exciting to watch, but not really a NC contender.

Do you even remotely follow recruiting? I guess the names Tywon Lawson and Wayne Ellington mean nothing to you. Who was the National Freshman of the Year last season? Tyler Hansbrough. The Heels are one of the three most talented teams in the country. Anyone who thinks we have that kind of talent needs to have their medication checked.

Actually, this season is going to be the complete opposite of last season. This team will struggle early with inexperience, adjustments, and trying to find roles. But, the team is more talented overall and as the season progresses Pearl will force the team to improve immensely from the begining of the season to the end. Going into the SEC Tourney they will be playing the best basketball of the season and will be somebody nobody wants to play. To make any type of run in the NCAA the maturation process of Crews and Chism in the post will have to be big.

Thats kind of where my sarcasm was coming from law. I just read an article on ESPN about the best returning players and of course Noah was mentioned. The comments were that with so much talent coming back instead of heading to the NBA UF could be on their way to building a dynasty. I thought that was funny considering this same team was very good all year but never expected to win it all. And to say they're building a dynasty is pretty strong considering how fast atlent comes and goes in college basketball. But at least now the best players have to play a year. By the way how was Florida's recruiting in Bball this year. I don't follow recruiting in basketball like I do in football

Yup. North Carolina and Florida will compete for preseason and early season honors at #1 until one of them loses.

I agree with you that its extremely premature to say Florida is building a "dynasty." I'm not sure what that is in college basketball anymore, anyway. The problem is, as you note, that the best kids either never go to college or, if they have a good year, they split for the NBA.

I cannot imagine there ever being another UCLA, or even a Duke, in our midst. The fact that the Gator players decided to stick around is amazing. If one of them gets severely injured, though, he will become the poster child for every kid considering leaving early!!

Thats true, man if Noah goes down even I'll feel sory for him. There's a good chance he would have been #1 in last years draft. I saw an interesting thing in Sports Illustrated a while back. It had the sweet 16 for "dream teams" which were made up of players that had either played at a school and left early or had said they were going somewhere but went straight to the NBA. It was unreal some of the teams that were in this bracket. To think of what could have been if things were like they were in the past where kids went to college, it can be fun and sickening at the same time.

I can't blame them for leaving. I understand it. But it is one of about ten reasons I just cannot stand the NBA at this point. Hate it.
