By the talks before the season last year, I was expecting an Oregon type offense speed wise (between snaps). How do we think this years team will compare?

As fast as Malone, Pig, North, and Hurd can run. I'm just guessing but, I think Hurd will be the fastest player on offense for UT.

Hopefully big, grinding and just fast enough for play action. Keeping the ball out of the hands of the opposing offense is the objective mainly. That coupled with defense wins lots of games. Lots.....
A tired defense who is one the field most of the game is not a good defense.....

Play action from a spread option attack?

I'm expecting a lot faster. Not only have our skill positions improved but our OL is a bit more of what Butch likes.

Smaller, blue collar, and hard working. Being 6'3 300 you can get back to the line a lot faster than 6'6 330. We'll wear some defenses down not based on size or athletic ability but speed and work ethic.

Better question. How fast will the defense be?

Faster, but younger?

This young defense will be flying around. I think that's why they moved Curt to DE. Give us a faster guy on the outside of the line. Randolph gained 25lbs, I'm assuming to play a LB hybrid. Seems like everything is focused on speed.

I can't wait.

Something we haven't had in a long time. Hope these youngsters grow up FAST.

Randolph still listed at 197 on official roster. Where yo git dis infro? I don't ever recall a DB putting on 25 pds. in an off-season.

Butch said it at the presser in SEC media days. It sounds like to me that Randolph will be playing a lot at OLB and Maggit will be at DE. That means Kelly and the other freshmen will get a lot of time at Safety.

Faster than a pedestrian crossing Alcoa highway ... need to slow it down with a lead in last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter though(Vandy).

I don't think anyone has actually answered OP's question. Don't think he's asking how fast our players will run but how much of an uptempo offense we'll run. I think it will definitely go quicker. I believe that's how Butch wants things done. We seemed to have success when we did this last year. Though we lost pretty badly to Bama, I think the best we looked that day was when we were going up tempo. We'll be very well conditioned and this will pay dividends when we run up tempo because we'll have teams worn out by the end of the game and then we'll win the forth quarter.

Totally agree---

Again, it will depend on our defense IMO. We may need to grind the clock if our D can't make stops when it counts.

QB fakes the run and steps back and passes. Auburn and Ole Miss did it about 100 times apiece last year. IIRC it was similiar to how Dobbs threw the TD to Croom in the KY game.

That's the read option out of the spread offense, the QB must make a read on the DE, if the end takes the RB the QB keeps it, if he comes after the QB he gives it to the RB. Basically, the QB has to make a split second decision based on the defense. In a play action, it's usually run out of a pro set the QB makes a simple fake to the RB and then looks to pass down field, the fake is designed to get the DB's and Linebackers to bite on the run while the WR or TE runs past them and the QB throws the ball to an open WR or TE. UT runs a spread offense under Butch not a pro set. Auburn and Ole Miss also run spread offenses with the read option.
