UGA message boards are glowing with this guy, but when I look at his resume I am underwhelmed.
How good a coach is he, really?

Football is a copycat game and they are glowing because I’m sure they think they they are getting Joe Brady 2.0 and some sort of Joe Burrow clone from either Newman or Daniels. We’ll see what they look like, but I’ll remain skeptical.

You won’t be able to gauge how good he is after the dawgs destroy arky week 1, but you will find out the following week when they face the barn (assuming CFB makes it to week 2).

They were glowing about the last guy too after they lost Chaney.
But,but,but......Chaney was recruited over. We did not want him anyway We have a better OC. Typical bulldog spew. Athens has a problem named Kirby. In a few years he will replace saban at bama and the puppies will be making puddles again. And bama will get what they deserve.

Why would Kirby leave his Alma mater to replace Saban?

Kirby's not leaving Georgia to go back to Alabama. Georgia is home, and they'd match whatever Alabama offered Kirby in the event of that.

I do not think it is all love and roses with the Ga fans. The star gazers think that Ga should have won something by now. A lot of fans think he is no better than CMR. And he is a prick. Do not know how hard they would try to keep him. A lot of my deep Alabama friends say he is the anointed one over Dabo. It might be a mutual parting of ways.

I don’t think you can judge him off a few early games this year. It’ll take some time for the offense to adjust. We’ll see how simple he can make it for the offense this year though

You must talk to different Georgia fans than I do, because most of the ones I know (and most of the ones who appear on this board) think Kirby is better than Richt, despite the first 4 years of each of their tenures being eerily similar. I think UGA would fight really hard to try and keep him simply because of the risk of the unknown if they let him walk. Are they frustrated with Kirby to an extent? Sure, but he's also won the SEC, played for a title (something Richt never did), and finished in the top 5 twice in 4 years. It isn't like he's only winning 9 games a year. Richt had 1 top 5 finish in his last 8 years there.

Letting a coach go because he hasn't won a national title is a risky proposition, even at a place like Georgia. They could let Kirby walk and be back where they were under the last several years of Richt rather easily, IMO. Sometimes schools are willing to pay for the right to not have a coach worse than the one they currently have. And Georgia, whose "commitment to excellence" at the administrative level has been questioned over the years, might do just that.

I referenced Auburn because they typically have a stout defense. If his offense is carving through the barn's D then that is a good sign for UGA.
