Houston (23-4, RPI #7, .644) top 20 wins: #12 TA&M by 4
#9 Iowa Iowa had two top scorers out of the game
No top 20 road wins.

Vols (22-5, RPI #3, .661) top 20 wins: #3 Florida, #14 Missouri, @#12 TA&M by 8

Houston has lost one game since the calendar changed to December. It was a 1 point overtime loss to a Texas Tech team that is now in the top 10. They shoot 40% from 3 as a team. They also have a better record than Tennessee by 1 game. And you conveniently said top 20, when they have beaten number 22 Arizona and a Kansas team that is just barely unranked on the road. It really isn’t a mystery or an injustice.

To be fair, if you include top 25, we add Mississippi State as well. We have 5 top 25 wins currently.

But at this point, the AP poll doesn’t matter. It’s about seeding and the committee now. They probably also get a bump based on recent history, too.

The AP poll never really matters. I remember one year SMU finished the season ranked and missed the tournament.

Houston is ahead of us in the AP Top 25, but we are ahead of them in the Selection Committee rankings, which are the only ones that matter.

Houston is pretty good. I’m not gonna get my panties in a wad if someone thinks they are better than us.

They are ranked ahead of us in the two advanced metrics I put the most weight in. KP and TR.

RPI isn't used anymore. NET is used, and they're ahead of us there. Kenpom as a predictive model really isn't meant to judge past performance but it's influential and they're ahead of us there too.

Again, the only list that matters is the Selection Committee’s, and we’re ahead of them, and we’ll stay there as long as we keep winning.

I don’t think they did the rankings and then stopped considering the teams altogether. At this point I would be surprised if the committee still has us over Houston. It would almost entirely hinge on the stability in their rankings that you have cited.

After doing some research here's something I think is important for us in fighting Houston for that #1 seed. Houston lost to San Diego State on a neutral court. San Diego State are currently 49 NET.

That loss is teetering on becoming a quad 2 loss ( 51-100 NET on a neutral court)
We need to hope San Diego State loses to New Mexico, Wyoming, UNLV, or Nevada.
Hopefully all lol.

New Mexico @SDSU tonight @11p.m.
