No reason for me to think Johnson won't win #4.

I don't think he has a chance in hell, but I'm pulling for Montoya to win it.

really?

This maybe marks last shot, god knows his earned it.
Wouldn't bother me a bit if Martin won it, but I'd prefer Montoya.

Really though if it's anyone other than Gordon and Johnson I'll be content. I would add Vickers to that list as well, but like Montoya, he has no shot either.

here's my things to watch:

1. will Smoke continue to get the same support he has all year? i have to think the felon would much rather see his name on the championship with his team, and not his "other" team.

2. Jeff Gordon is running out of time if he wants one more. being closer to the end of your career than the start means it's time to get up on the wheel.

3. i don't think there's anybody who wouldn't be happy with see the #5 right there when Homestead rolls around. can he beat back the bad luck that's plagued him before to make a miraculous run for the Cup? if the old timer does it, i'll cry.

4. The Chase should take notice. Juan Pablo Montoya is here to stay. i don't think he wins it this year, but i wouldn't rule him out going forward. he has all the talent in the world and his team has finally figured out how to run well.

5. Dodge has their two marque drivers in the Chase. one has done it before. the other has the ability to anything he wants when he's hot. both are more than capable of putting together The Chase needed to hoist the Cup in November.

6. Jeremy Mayfi...err...Brian Vickers left his old to team to be the man with his current team. after getting in by the skin of his teeth, does he have what it takes to go all the way?

7. Carl Edwards won the most races last year. this year he hasn't won any, but if he can click off a couple early, he can be a force by the time we reach Homestead

8. can anybody find a reason why Jimmie Johnson won't win? typing this is is probably a waste of my time, because it doesn't matter.

9. Denny Hamlin and Greg Biffle haven't been talked about all year, yet both find themselves right in the thick of it. Biffle has seen the top of the mountain and knows what it takes to get there. Hamlin is as every bit the driver his teammate is, as his Chase berth indicates.

10. there's another Stewart-Haas car in the Chase? yep, Newman makes his return as well, but i have to wonder what scraps he's going to be left with once Smoke picks through them.

here's my things to watch:

1. Good question, probably not.

2. He may have one more in him, but don't bet on him this year.

3. I'll be right there crying too.

4. Agree, JPM would be a multi-race winner with HMS, JGR or Roush.

5. It will be a long shot.

6. lmao. no!

7. Certainly possible. Also possible UT can win SEC.

8. See number 3.

9. Denny Hamlin - not Championship material. Greg Biffle - my pick for this years sleeper.

10. If your premise in number one is accurate, all there will be are scraps - Rocketman sputters.

For what it's worth.

I've been wondering that very same thing. Why would Rick be giving Tony and Ryan his "best" motors. Why not short change them a few horse power. It will be interesting to see.

Why should Rick give Tony his "best" motors? He will give them the same motors they've been getting all year and that was enough to put Tony Stewart in the points lead through the first 26 races.

I'm hoping Tony didn't peak to early. Obviously Johnson's the favorite, but if Tony can regain his consistency he'll be tough and Martin has shown he's plenty capable of competing for wins each week. It should be fun.

By best I mean the same thing that the 5, 24, and 48 are getting. He should get the same stuff they are. That's what he is paying for. I'm just saying if they improve on a few things before/during the chase(few more hp/little better fuel milage) that he might not issue those motors to the 14/39. I didn't say he would or wouldn't but the thought has crossed my mind.

i am going to have to pull for mark. he is probably the best driver to never have won one so far.

So what does everyone think of Mark's chances of finally getting his well deserved Championship? Its a good way to start off the Chase with a win at a track he hadn't won at before.

He has a 60 pt lead, so is it his to lose? 60 pts can disappear in one miscue. Dover and Talledega are crapshoots as you can get caught in someones mistake so easily. I think he can win it, and think he will.
