How long?

Not only that, but LSU was very mediocre in the 90s, and Bama had their DuBose, Coach Fran/Price, and Shula days too. You think those fanbases sat around, sighed, and said this is the best we'll ever do? No, they went out and got the right leader for their programs and look where they are today.

Yeah, I lived in the panhandle during some of Alabama's down years and I met lots of their fans and they were never like this with the "well he inherited a bad situation, we can't expect to be good for years" or "well, we can't recruit as well as Florida or Georgia" or whatever. The mindset was always "Once we get somebody good, we'll be great again and you better watch out" and that's how it ended up. Same with Florida in the Zook years. But here, it's just pathetic.

I'm with you man. Saturday after the game, Tim Priest said it is going to take, and I quote, "seasons" to get things back on track. Note that is plural, with an "s". Seasons, not "lets get through this year and then everything will be lovely." I'm not crazy about it either, but things will be okay. And, hell fire, what do some of these jack legs want to do? Get another coach? Good gosh a mighty, folks. Kick back a little bit, maybe get a good buzz going Saturday afternoon, and enjoy life. Peace, Wood

The problem is with the expectations the fans create in their minds...It's like the Gruden fiasco. That was created by the fans. It had no basis whatsoever but it took off. Then when it didn't happen, the fans blamed everyone but themselves when they created the issue.

Once the "Butch Gets It" bandwagon got rolling, UT fans jumped all in. Expectations were immediately inflated by the fans. Even though they were constantly reminded of Brick By Brick.

I think people were "hoping" for a better outing against OR. I think the type of drubbing it was caused some panicking but I think more than anything most just settled into how bitterly cold our reality really is right now.

I think most fans are a little over optimistic heading into any season. There are a lot more told you so posts after our first annual ass whipping than there are before it's played. Just human nature on both sides.

I'm absolutely astounded that so many on here think that Tennessee's days of winning double digit games are over in "today's football". What a pack of freaking losers. Why?? Because we lost to Oregon?? Holy Moses, and to think I'm the one that gets called a negavol. Petrino had back to back double digit win seasons in the toughest division in football while recruiting from the worst state in the league for D1 talent. The right leadership is EVERYTHING. It is absolutely possible for UT to return to elite status in our league and with the right leadership its not just possible, its guaranteed. I seriously don't know how some of you are making it through life with that kind of "throw in the towel" attitude. I already knew we had the dumbest fanbase in America, just didn't know we also have the weakest.

Tell 'em FADE. "Legion of the Miserable" ring a bell? IMO, Coach Jones is trying to change this mentality with the players and fans. After Kiffin and Dooley, there is a lot to repair.

The funny thing, though, is that the ones who are taking a critical perspective after the Oregon loss are not the ones who jumped on the "Butch gets it" bandwagon, but those of us who always took a wait and see approach. And the ones who are so upset and trying to shout down anyone who dares to question Butch Jones' supreme judgement and ability are the ones who have been repeating "Butch gets it" like robotic acolytes for months.

Probably, but go back and look at this board last week. Optimism was all over the place.

When someone mentioned that this was a total mis-match they were met with Go root for Vandy/ Bama/ UF, or called a Negavol.

Now, these sunshine pumpers from last week have thrown the towel in. If UT would have lost 52-31 with most of that 31 coming in garbage time this place would be buzzing with optimism...for no legitimate reason other than UT scored 31 against Oregon and covered the spread.

The fans needs to peel a couple of layers off the onion to see what they're really dealing with. Too many fans look at the stats they want to (beating WKU 52-20) and ignoring other stats (giving up 400 yards to WKU).
Their reasoning was the WKU was a good team. No. They. Aren't!

I think Butch will get at least 5 years to turn things around. Regardless, I think in 2015 we will really start to see things get better and for us to be much more competitive in the SEC. Next years recruiting class will really set the tone for the next 4-5 years and hopefully we can fill those last few spots with some big ugly's (maybe Juco ones).

Why would you expect the 2015 signing class to be any good after 2 years of losing (well, actually 5 straight years of losing, but 2 with the current coach)?

Are you going to wait for him to lose before you call him a losing coach?...lot of disastrous presumption on your part ..you're a chore on this board

I don't know if we will ever see 10 win seasons consistently anymore. Different league now.

I hate to say it but I think your right. I don't think we will have consistent 10 win seasons ethier maybe some here and there but were quite a ways from that.
