When we scored to go ahead 31-24, I told my buddy "We scored too early! You watch, they'll march right down the field and tie it and then we'll lose in overtime."

Did anyone else think that when we scored?

I spit out my beer and said "$#%^ me we might win" right in front of my friends 4 year old kid.

The thought crossed my mind. But I think you take the touchdown and take your chances, rather than trying to run clock and possibly ending up with a field goal.

Oh I agree! You gotta take the TD every time. I don't fault us for that at all! It's just that I have seen that scenario play out SO many times in football games, and not just Tennessee but at virtually every level of football! I don't know what it is with defenses and defensive coordinators when it comes to stopping offenses on final winning drives like that. But it almost seems like a foregone conclusion that when a team goes up with 2 or 3 minutes left in a game, the opposing team always answers right back.

I confess. Was outside at another event & hearing about the game via friends with radios. After 10 years I've been conditioned for disappointment, but a new day has dawned on The Hill. GBO

I said the same thing to all my fellow patrons in the establishment..."we scored too early, UGA took it right down the field on LSU last week for the go ahead TD after LSU scored and they are getting ready to do it to us" But yes you have to score when you can and I'm glad we did. Great game and if we can play with that effort the rest of the year, we will win some games people say we shouldn't. With any young team however, we will probably see some steps back as we keep moving forward...I just hope people don't call out the lynch mob if/when those backward steps come.

I agree some one posted last night that the coaches poorly managed the clock in that situation and should have played for a FG. I replied that you take the TD and hope your D can get a stop.

I did not have a problem with clock management in that situation did you?

Yeah, you have to take the touchdown, unless you could run the clock completely out, then maybe you chance a field goal.

But their kicker hit a 56 yarder. I'd rather have the touchdown and make them go all the way down the field in 2 minutes than a field goal and try to keep them from going half the field in 1 minute.

I agree. Hats off to Murray he never lost his cool when obviously his back was against the wall.

I agree. I was just saying that I've seen that scenario play out so many times, I just can't understand what is so different about defending an offense in THAT particular scenario VS any other time during a game.

Thats a crappy mentality. Its the same one our teams of the past few years have shared. Just like our team has, you need to get rid of that kind of thinking.

Obviously if you can script it you'd like more time off the clock, but I don't think you can second guess the TD. Just gotta go play D

When we get rid of those kinds of results, I'll get rid of that kind of thinking. Doesn't matter what I think! I don't play for or coach the team. It's their job to give ME a reason to be optimistic. Not the other way around.

I said the same thing, but we scored on a running play off the left tackle....through a huge gaping hole. It wasn't like we tried to score with any sense of immediacy. Lookin back, I believe we were trying to run some time off the clock, but it didn't work out that way.

I'm still sick that the refs didn't let them play on the other end of the field as time was running down. It wasn't like we were raping their WR's...and that pisses me off. Our secondary personnel were working their asses off.

Yeah, the clock management theory is great, but they had to take the TD whenever they could get it. It took losing in regulation out of the question.

Why are people upset about the PI call? It may have been marginal, but it didn't really matter.

It mattered mentally...when things become circumstantial like that, minds change on the field.

Fresh set of downs.
DB's become more conservative

I thought we had it in the bag even with 35 seconds left and still had hope from that point

I thought we had it in the bag. Seemed like it was finally our time to shine.

I was honestly expecting a sack and forced fumble for Murray or an INT to ice it.

I thought it was too good to be true and yep, it was. We are close to turning a corner but we aren't quite there yet.

I immediately thought, "Rope a dope." They let us score to get the ball back. If we run two more plays, game over.

Can't really expect Neal to pull up in that environment with the checkerboards staring him in the face though. He went out and took the lead.
