So we have signed 4 Jucos since signing day. From what I have read those count against 2019 class.

The reason I am confused is because we didn't take 25 guys in 18, so why do all these guys count against next years class?

Iirc, Shaq Wiggins only counted against our scholarship limit, but not against a particular class.

While I think we have some good Jucos signed, is there a fine line? I want to win now, year zero is bs. But I don't want to rob Peter to pay Paul.

Can anyone help me understand?

Win now and get better players coming to UT.

Success breads success.

Edit:
With the lottery scholarship, we can fill in with instate talent walking on. Can a walkon have a job?

Wiggins actually did count against the 18 class, as did a couple of blueshirt candidates. Of the top of my head I don't remember who they are. The number for the 18 class was 21 I believe.

Now I think one of the DB's that is committed to this class is a possible draft pick in baseball and may not be coming. If he doesn't then he won't be a counter since he's also a bs candidate. I think there was another bs who may or may not be coming. If either of them don't show up, then some of these grad transfers will count toward the 18 class from my understanding. If they do, then they they all count toward 19

Recruiting is a vicious cycle....

If we do not show tangible progress on the field in 18 and 19, having 25 spots in 2020 will be worthless due to the "hot seat" talk that will be starting up, which will negatively impact recruiting...

Pruitt has to recruit JUCOs. The current roster has not been developed physically or fundamentally by the prior regime. None of the last 3 recruiting classes have been above 7th in the SEC. In a perfect world, Pruitt would have enough time to see a class from a full recruiting cycle through but SEC football don't work that way.

To your point about not counting towards last year, OP. I think they ended that, you get 25 a year and that's it, no more using the previous years unused scholarships on early enrollees.

Every year we make a big deal about numbers and every year the staff works it out. Sign the best kids that’s all we need.

We had 23 spots available in 2018 due to Wiggins and a Blueshirt...believe it was Fant. Signed 21 with Norwood and Davis holding back. Chryst and London filled the 23. Now George, Norwood and Davis (if both report) drops next season’s number to 22 and we have four commits eating into that so....18 spots?

Chryst is a grad transfer and shouldn't count against the 19 class.

We will forward count 5 or so against the '20 class putting us back around 23...we can do this forever.

Also, after first try with early signing period wouldn't be surprised to see a bit more tinkering going on. Numbers today may not be numbers in June.

Eventually blueshirts and/or grad transfers taking 5 spots in each of your classes is going to take it’s toll. :hmm: Understand it in the short term to establish winning, but you gotta pay the bill eventually. Credit Card Recruiting 101.

Doesn’t affect numbers in a signing class.

5 spots? You recruit the other 20 well enough you will be fine.

It is. And I think Pruitt is feeling it right now. I think he has to make a bowl this fall to get this thing rolling like he wants. Especially since he isn’t exactly starting off “fan friendly” by staying silent on player development and limiting fan access to players at the spring game. If he goes out at produces a 4-8 season I don’t think fans will give him much grace. I think it would unravel fast from there. Remember the Schianomo!

What if you’re down 6 and you only have 19? :)
It catches up. 5 projects a year=suck. 20 man classes don’t win championships.
