Occupy Wall Street: Who is the top 1% for income? - Oct. 20, 2011

Interesting stuff. Takes $343,000 a year to meet minimum threshold, although the average is just shy of $1 million a year.

The top 1 % make 17 % of the entire national income, and pay 37 % of the taxes.

The OWS folks may be onto something in the one industry in particular accounts for 14 % of the 1 %: finance exces working on Wall Street.

Why does it matter what other people make? I dont care how much my neighbor to the left or right of me makes. It doesnt bother me that the person sitting next to me in a traffic jam makes $1 Million per year. Thats great for them, Congrats. If they are upset that the CEO of their bank makes $25 million then move your money to a differnet bank

Protests Target 'One Percent,' But Who Exactly Are They?

A category called “executives, managers and supervisors (non-finance)" make up the greatest concentration in this group at 6.35 percent. Financial professionals are next at 2.77 percent, while doctors make up 1.85 percent and lawyers 1.22 percent.

The rest of the table shows a wide variety of skills, from real estate professionals to celebrities, from government workers to farmers and pilots, each comprising about 0.5 percent of the 1 Percenters.

Looks like the 1% is a very diverse group

The top 1% shoulders 37% of income taxes. That leaves 52% paying the remaining 63% of income taxes, since 47% don't pay income tax. Is that right?

37% of taxes on 17% of income - hmmmm

Docs are better represented than WS execs - better protest them.

Lawyers are highly represented - better protest them.

And here I was falsely believing I was part of the 1% as they definitely don't represent my beliefs.
