There was talk about Gaines here recently, really glad to see him, Anosike, and Pember playing so well this year. Anosike was a big mystery -- and major disappointment -- to me last season.

While starting in each of George Mason’s first six games, Gaines is averaging 29.2 minutes per game. He’s third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.8 points — shooting 53.5 percent from the field (23-43) and 64.7 percent from the 3-point line (11-17) — and leads the team in rebounding, at 9.0.

...Anosike leads his new team (Cal State Fullerton) in scoring at 19.5 points per game, shooting 62.5 percent from the field. He’s averaging 9.5 rebounds per game, too.

...Pember has been a standout at UNC Asheville, too, leading the team in scoring (10.8 points per game), rebounds (5.3 per game) and blocks (17).

Pember had 2 points, 3 Rebounds in 27 minutes vs UNC in a 72 to 53 point loss last night. I think these former players are in the right size conference now, the practices they had at UT vs really good talent should pay dividends. They were all good teammates and will do great on their new teams. Gaines could have been a great player by his 4th year in a top P5 team.
I think the height at this level for Anosike was just too much to overcome. He will do well in the Big West with all the UC- schools.

Pember did have 5 blocks against UNC, obviously early but he’s a top 3 shot blocker in college basketball currently at about 4.5/game.

Would have enjoyed watching Ticket develop at UT. I think he has SEC talent but got caught up in a very deep wing team especially with the 2 1&D guys. He needed PT and is getting it now. Dude has heart and wish him the best!

I think it’s pretty clear that Gaines probably could’ve turned into a contributor here based on how he’s playing at what’s considered a quality level of competition…likely not really a spot for him this year but after this year I could see him having carved out a role. Craziest part is he’s shooting 63% from 3 on almost 3 attempts a game, and shooting 85% from the FT line, quite the improvement,

I think he just needed to get consistent pt so he wasn’t worrying about getting pulled. I agree that he would likely still be struggling to get big minutes at UT this year. He’s an example of someone the portal really benefited

If Holmgren can succeed, then so can Gaines. Man, his legs look like sticks out there!

Height wasn't necessarily the issue, it was the lack of leaping ability.
