How the Vols can make a run...

Nice read. The only problem I see with your 5 steps to have a deep run in the tourney is that's what we've been asking them to do since the game against Oakland. They've had a few months to fix this and haven't so I just don't see it happening this late in the season. I don't even think the "chip on the shoulder" thing works anymore. They normally play out of this world when their back is against the wall but it's been against the wall for awhile now. If Tobias and Scotty can stay consistant (minus the last 2 games), Williams stays healthy and Tatum steps up...we can play with anyone.

They have done those things (beside the shortened rotation) at some point. They aren't going to score in the halfcourt a lot. They will rebound. Defense depends on the day. Those things you can't change.

I don't even think the shortened rotation this is that much of an issue as the way the substitutions are done. You can have a player going completely off with tons of momentum and then......he's on the bench.

Skylar was significantly better than Cam against Florida. Unless the coaches have some indication that Cam is coming out of his funk, keep him on the bench.

Also, TELL GOLDEN TO SLOW DOWN IN TRANSITION!!!!!!! I know this is the exact opposite of what you said, but Golden has ruined so many transition opportunities for us this year (even just in the SEC Tournament) by trying to be too aggressive in transition. Tell him to slow down unless he has a clear lane. Tell him that he doesn't have to make the spectacular play. That would help. A lot. Because he's killing us in transition when he's on the floor. Maybe that's where he was at his best in high school, but not at UT. Not yet at least.

Shorten the rotation play Goins, Hopson, Harris, Bone, Williams...... subs Golden 8 or 9 min, Mcbee 5 min, Pearl 3 min, and Hall 12 min

Ha @ Jay Williams. "Tennessee can go to the final four, Scotty Hopson is a pro". Doesn't he read VolNation!

I jus think mcbee can pass the ball and find the open man.......

I'll give him credit for playing well these past couple games. I just hate it when he comes in, immediately does something stupid, and stays in because that's what Bruce does.

That seems to be the problems with a lot of our players outside Hopson Harris and Williams....... Maybe their getting shuffled around to much and like a lot of think its screwing up chemistry..

Screwed up his body because he stupidly had a motorcycle. He would have been an excellent PG, especially after the hand checking rules.

I agree. He was an excellent leader on the floor but I think his commentary is pretty good. Seems to have worked out well for him.

But as crazy as Williams claims are, he's right. Tennessee can win the whole thing. I know any team in the country can..it depends on who gets hot at the right time. I don't see any coaches really taking UT lightly though. They know who we've beat and what were capable of so were not going to sneak up on anybody but we certainly have the talent to run anybody out of the gym. Highly unlikely but more of a chance than others.

This might be the year where I can see a 7/8/9/10 team getting hot and winning the national title. I'm not saying it will happen, but this could be the year to watch for that.

Interesting blog.

I'd add that if we use our rotation numbers a bit more efficiently by pressing the ball at every moment. I am not sure why this team moved away from the pressure style of play, but they went to it shortly in the sec tourney and it made florida panic -- just too little way too late.

Futhermore, I think a change-up in style would be welcome by this team.

We will be lucky to win the first round game and will be out of the tournament after playing Duke in Charlotte if we make it. No chance, Duke is by FAR a more superior basketball team to us and plays with effort on every play.
