How to meet Smokey on gameday

Going to the UTM game Saturday. First UT game I've attended in quite a while, and it'll be my 2 year old's first. She's dying to pet Smokey. How might we be able to do this during the pregame festivities?

I seem to remember that at least for Smokey X, Chik-Fil-A sandwiches were like crack to him.

Are we still using 10 this year or on to 11 this year? I'm not sure.

Well I got to pet Smokey by sitting on the front row of the student section before a game. He and his handler came by and Smokey put his paws on the wall and I leaned down and gave him a good scratch behind the ears for being the Goodest boy in the world.

I think they are honoring him for his last season, but I think he will finish out the year.

Smokey X is announcing retirement this weekend during the game. He will finish the season and Smokey XI will take over 2023.

Get to the Volwalk early. They bring Smokey in well before the players make the walk and a lot of little kids go out and pet him.

This, I tailgate with my BIL near fraternity row, just down from the rock and he is always out there a few hours before games.

I have found him after the game a few times near Neylands statue/ Peyton Manning Way. Usually the handlers, and Smokey, are very accommodating.

Are you willing to take your daughter to a frat house?

The beginning of a game day usually involves lots of photographs, as fans enjoy snapping pictures with Smokey in the AGR house.

After this, the handlers bring Smokey to Volunteer Village for about 45 minutes. Volunteer Village is located in Humanities Plaza and offers pre-game activities such as interactive inflatable games, and UT fans in attendance are always ecstatic to meet and take photos with Smokey.

From there, the group travels to the Vol Walk and usually arrives 10 or 15 minutes early. During the Vol Walk, the handlers stand surrounded by fans on either side of the road.

They now have some excellent statues around the campus of previous Smokey hounds -- make sure try to find a few of those with your daughter!

This. I’ve done a couple shoots with him for TV commercials, and a CFA sandwich is the GUARANTEED way to get him to look where you want. Never fails.
