Let's for a second assume Hart is not a moron.

Let's ask the follow: how does a man look like he's doing a coaching search without actually doing one.

First, I wouldn't hire a search team because I would want to go after people I knew would say no and just leak a few other names that I never plan on meeting with.

Then I would go find a pretty big name (Gundy) who has ties to his school and no chance of leaving and go visit him. Make him an offer that is not even that great or maybe just talk (at his house) and make it look like I was turned down.

Then I would go find a coach with tons of character who has always wanted a HC position and offer him the job. but not personally. Not even face to face. But through Cheek. With very little respect. So that his character kicks in and he stays at UL.

Then I would leak nothing else and let the media go berserk and the search looks like it is totally lost and confused. This confusion would be so great that I would have to do nothing else until hiring my new coach when he was ready...Gruden.

I am not saying Grider stepping down means anything. I am not saying Gruden is coming.

But we have a situation where it is one way or the other and there is no middle ground...Hart is either a moron or he has played the game very,very well.

Who's to say the Ace up his sleeve has to be Gruden? No one in the Arky camp had heard Bielema's name until the day it was released.

I also want to add something.

Babyvol is (supposedly) friends with Grider. That is his source.

Grider is the one who leaked the story.

Grider received a phone call from Gruden (and another call tonight) and people have actually overheard this. There is a chance Grider let the cat out of the bag too soon and thus we started get smoekscreens.

Not saying any of this is true, but this does go with everything Babyvol has ever said.

Smart money is on this.

Sometimes you can over-analyze things. We want there to be a reasonable explanation for things because, really, they can't be this bad.

They are.

Hart got arrogant, said he and he alone was going to run the search. Zeroed in on two candidates that were unrealistic and then couldn't close the deal.

Hart has not hired a football coach since Steve Logan at East Carolina. Let that sink in. The rules are way different than they used to be.

Alabama's hire was made by ... the boosters. I think Tennessee's may ultimately end up having to be as well.

But it's not a calculated plan. There's too much damage being done to the school's reputation.
