What is the feedback from recruits on how and how hard our coaches recruit compared to brand x and y?
— Rick H

I talked to a couple guys in the past couple weeks and asked them this exact question. The main thing I get is that Florida’s coaches talk more about stuff outside of football. Family, friends, hobbies, religion, etc. Miami, Booker T. Washington defensive end Lynden Trail said that Florida was his No. 1 mainly because of his relationship with Urban Meyer. He said Meyer sometimes talks to his girlfriend before he’ll talk to him and that football is rarely talked about. Ronald Powell talked about how the family atmosphere is selling hard as well. Even my boy O.J. Ross, who still doesn’t have a Florida offer, said Florida feels like a huge family. I think Meyer’s got the recruiting talk down pat. With the way his players bond so quickly, recruits just feel comfortable with Florida.

Plus, they have to love the thought of winning a championship, and Gainesville is the place for that these days.

its not groundbreaking, but it is interesting

They have to be like a family. They are bailing each other out of jail all the time.

Meyer is really big on negative recruiting also.

In 2007, he told lots of players that "Tennessee would never be relevant as long as he's at Florida." (Well, he had a point when Fulmer was our coach...)

He recently told a Penn State player not to go to PSU because there is no discipline, players get in trouble way too much up there, and it's not a good environment (pot, meet kettle).

I also think, and this is just speculation, that he told Scroggins UT would get in trouble with the NCAA with "all these secondary violations" since that was one reason Scroggins said he didn't choose UT.

I'm sure there's many other times he's done similar things like this too. He's such a slimeball.

It sounds like it could just as easily be referring to any other school. Those practices aren't unique to Florida. Our recruits have said very similar things about this current staff.

Florida's success isn't because they do anything different than other schools or are so much better recruiters. It's because they sit in a hotbed of talent and have a very successful program. Spurrier set up a tradition of success there in the 90s. All these kids now remember is Florida being good.

Sounds like he's the ladies man. Bow-chicka-wow-wow.

I got this straight from the someone who was there. Demetre Baker LB from Orange Park goes on a visit to UF then meets with Meyer in his office. The first thing Meyer says is "how does it feel to be in my presence." I heard this straight from a coach who was there. Apparently the coach and Baker didn't know how to respond, the coach said he has never heard a college coach ever say anything like this. The same coach also happens to be a Gator fan, so I don't think he would make this up.

Thoughts?

How much was Florida in the limelight before the Visor showed up? Another question that remains, is Kiffin our Spurrier?

florida may be ahead of us for a few years in recruting, but all they got is missdirection running plays and QB that when has to throw the sidelines is about as accurate as a bowed arrow, our coahces will make sure they play assignment football, its the same damn reason we almost got beat by airforce frew years back. lack of disicipline on D. then all we have to do is shut down the middle and make crybow throw it to the sidelines, then we get to hear another speach put on a plaque, simple as that.

How does Florida recruit?

They get in their car and drive to the next town to pick up their next star. That is why they are so good at it.

Exactly. They basically go out to their back yard and start chatting with some of the nations best talent. Meyer really doesn't know what it is like to bust his butt on the recruiting trail. The fact that he still has to negative recruit is ridiculous.

Not defending Captain Urby, but you did see what 2-star Meyer recruit Brian Johnson did to Alabama last year right? He may be a liar, he may negatively recruit, and he may have gone to a place with a plethora of talent.....but when he had to he could spot it, too.

Honestly, I like the fact that we're differentiating ourselves from UF in recruiting... cause lets face it, if the same pitch is being thrown to the same guys, then Florida definitely has the edge in many facets... Think about it... location, existing talent, academics, recent success...

We've got to play to our strengths and stress our potential and how great we cannnn be (as individuals and a team) with help from our all-star coaching staff! I think we're selling "Be part of the UT revival" (and the excitement behind it) really hard right now...

Wow. Did you think this up on your own or did you have help?

Yeah that's all Meyer did to win 2 national championships. Are you kidding me? Can you just be objective and actually know what you are talking about. How many times did Tebow hit Harvin, Caldwell, and Murphy on deep outs or fade routes. Actually watch more than one game so you don't sound ignorant.
